Icon4 Don't know how to play.

OK guys, I'm sorry if this is noobish of me, but I just can't play this mod. I'm not like the usual RS2 player that has already played RS1.

I don't get most of the buildings and their uses. I get confused with character development as wel as cities, etc... Could someone, please, post a link to some kind of guide, or if possible, give me some tips, maybe some detailed help?

    I appreciate it,

I'd really like to play this game, but it's just so hard to understand right now...

Hi i been with RS 2 well over 3 years.
First question- do you wish to play on 0 turn to receive units or1 turn?
That info is on the launcher.
    Also what faction?
Some factions you may have to fight off at the start, while others you need to build a little then wait.

If i were you i would try to raise the economy . To the highest level to build that cash flow.
Then watch your enemies and see what they are doing. Send spies out to see the terrain. And diplomates to every faction you can find. Try to trade with them and make alliances. So you don't have to fight them later. Build temples for trade. look for the best ones like 10% or 20% to start.
Watch what you spend on each turn. If your not making income you will lose by building military units and other things. Stay with low cost and low maintenance troops. If no one is attacking you build econ. up. Like gold and silver, iron, lead, if you see on your map those resources. If you don't. Don't do it yet or it will cost you more.
Our trait system is still being worked on. But if you have a good commander that has good skills in economy use him in the best city that is producing. Read the cards in the city's, it explains very well what to expect.
Play the game at this time at med/med. For beginners.
Any higher the income will be less, and the fighting harder. Once you decide to play a stronger campaign. play at h/h/.
All higher levels don't work like they should. Or will make your units elite and the battle will not be as real as you like. This is a learning experience. If you have to start over because of the mistakes you made and lose the war that is just the way it is. But that's the fun about this mod. The a1 neither does the same thing.
    Have fun hope this helps!

Oh yes. also turn off the auto save in RS2 /RTW/data/preferences.
How you do it is this. If it says true, delete carefully and type false.
Then save it. Its easy and you can change other things there if you like.
Like banners on battlefield or not, get rid of the green arrow markers.

Save the game every now and then,i say 2 or three moves. But before large battles and after save them. Or you might have to play them over.
The RTW engine still has its problems. So saving it, and rebooting and going back you can play it again without a CTD.
    BI has its problems also.
Alex.i feel is to buggy but others like it.
    Enjoy..

Thank you so much, I'm gonna give Macedon a try. I've been trying with Romans, but it seems too hard to keep Carthage AND the Rebels off of me...

But I was really asking about the building structures, I don't get what should be built...

As swHunter says you should aim to build roads, traders, ports, markets etc first, so you can increase your income. Also you should decide which cities you want to be militarily focused and which to be economically focused, as you will eventually be able to a city focus (I can't remember what they are actually called, but you should be able to tell what i am talking about) which will let take your city down the military path or the economic path. (Some cities already have them built). Things like baths/aqueducts/temples and anything that gives happiness or law bonuses would be good as well to keep your populace happy. You want to tyr and upgrade barracks and whatnot in one of your cities near the start of your game as well, so that you can build some better quality armies.

Mace? Sounds fun. Be Careful not to go to far north east. Those horse archers will pick you off.
I played Sparta a year ago. And they destroyed 4 stacks!
Then overrun my cities, allowing Greeks to take Athens and Corinth. The doom was near!
I had two cities left and that was it.

Build economy buildings, making cash, temples for income. temples for Happiness levels. Then farms, roads. Think like a builder. Better roads will increase better income.
Resources Like gold, silver ect. Mace is more richer then Sparta and Perg.
But take your time. you only have so much money at first. Attack Free Greeks. When you can to build income.
Then watch the population, if they are unhappy look at the building cards to see what will. You will get it.
Have fun! Watch your income. If you are losing money you either are building to much or or many troops.

Building economic buildings is very important, so as people say, try and build loads of roads, markets, ports, plus things like mines, wine, olive oil, fish, trading expeditions and so on.

In order to develop your barracks beyond the first few levels you'll need to have these in the city:

    "Fortified city"
    "Weapons metal import"
    "Supply of army rations"

So what would Supply of army rations do exactly?
Are they really necessary? I could build more advanced barracks with the metal import.

i found that building the supply of army rations was needed in all my campaigns so far (rome, macedon, seleucids)

I guess it's to simulate how it was back then, kind of like roleplaying

Only for roleplaying? But it gives penalties.

I don't think the game is too complex. Just build every buildings give money and law bonuses.
But the training mechanic is... It's a bit hard that Rome can't train units ASAP.

It gives a fixed -10% tax bonus, -10% if you don't have the crop rotation field and -10% if you don't have the fish, salt, wine, olive oil trading building.

So once you build those you only have a -10% penalty, and you can also get a few 2% bonuses if your city has some resources and buildings as it is listed in the description.

maybe it would be best to start with the basics and start with playing Rome Total War to get into the mechanis..once you have everything assimilated most of the stuff in RSII is self explaining...
but if you wanna go direct for RSII...well...you have to learning by doin...no veteran player has been told how to be a veteran player..its adquiered experience thru playing........reading the building descriptions help a lot

im not sure if i agree with you chris10. I played the vanilla game. And i thought RS1 and EB1 were quite complex. It really takes a while to get used to the new building trees and what is the best way to upgrade your cities.

true but you might agree when you played vanilla a good while you knew the mechanic up to a point and eventually figure the rest out by yourself but for somebody who dont have a clue of RTW anyway its maybe not the smartest to start with a complicated and challenging mod...when you start learning math you dont start with atomic physics either, do you ?

true that true. Still, Vanilla is really a toddler compared to RS2

I know. So what is the point of building it?

You must build it to unlock the last level of barracks.

In effect it represents a professional commissariat to supply troops - obviously, those supplies have to come from somewhere (hence the revenue hit), but without proper logistics, your armies cannot reach their full potential.
