    Default World Domination?

I have been playing - on and off - the same game of MTW2 for about 6 months. I am curious as to whether I can actually take over the whole map? I am now at the stage where only me (England) the Papal States and the Rebels exist. The Papal Staes have no fortress, However if I wipe them out in a battle (which is easy) I get excommunicated and then a couple of goes later I am reconciled, the Papal States then reappear in exactly the same spot on the map?

The rebels just keep randomnly taking over fortresses or converting troops. It seems to matter little how many religious figures or buildings I purchase. In addition I have merchants everywhere and I am generating around 17000 florins per turn.

Is it possible to take over everything? I am actually fed up with playing now but I am curious as to whether it is possible. Being so close to world domination I dont want to give up - unless someone out there can tell me I will never quite achieve this.

Yeah, it's possible. You just need a big army.

The Pope reappears, too, just without his giant army. Once you take Rome, the Pope is forever alone. Well, until he gets a new place, anyway, and even then he still doesn't have a giant army.

Rebels in the vanilla campaign do not randomly capture settlements. You must have allowed the public order of the settlement to drop below 75% for too long, forcing the residents of the settlement to secede from your kingdom as a rebel state.

Your armies rebelling is a chance event, one that may be avoided by ensuring they remain within a settlement or greatly reduced by having a general within their ranks.

You don't really need a big army once you have dominated the world, just one large enough to stamp out the occasional brigands or rebel stacks that appears out of nowhere.

Since you can´t eradicate the rebels or the pope completely, I consider world domination to control all settlements on the map.
If you´ve achieved that, I say: call it the day, pat yourself on the shoulder and get started on a new game.

Regarding the last two replies; that's just it, I cannot seem to control all settlements. I have about half a dozen that are in rebel control; four of which revert back to rebel control within a few goes of taking them. I did consider surrounding them and attempting to take them all at the same time - in the same round.

Could you give me a few tips on capturing a screenshot?

Just curious to know if it's possible or is the game geared to ensure a player can never quite get there!

When it comes to controlling settlements, keeping the public order of the settlements to 75% and above is a must. Whenever it dips below 75% and the face turns red, the settlement is in danger of rioting. If it stays at red for another turn, the settlement will likely rebel and your garrison chased out.

To even begin to manage this problem, you will need to discover what is causing the problem. In the settlement scroll, click on the "Show Settlement Details" and study the "Public Order" details. Factors like Excommunication (-20%), Religious Unrest (max -80%), Tax Penalty (max -40%), Distance to Capital (max -80%) and Squalor (max -80%) may easily cancel out your bonuses to public order. Several of these factors are controllable.

To deal with Excommunication, don't get excommunicated in the first place. If that is unavoidable, like you really want Rome, be sure to kill the pope or kill your Faction Leader or engage in diplomacy in order to be reconciled.

To deal with Religious Unrest, recruit a number of priests and have them convert the local population to your religion. I would usually recruit six to nine of them and send them all to work in the same region at the same time; the conversion rate will be quite high and your priests may have the opportunity to gain more piety traits. Once about 80% of the local population is converted to your religion, the Religious Unrest may fall to about 5% to 15%, and you can move your priests onto the next region.

To deal with the Tax Penalty, simply lower the taxes.

To deal with Distance to Capital, you can only try to reduce it by ensuring your capital lies in the middle of your kingdom. For the best possible placement, observe the value of the "Corruption and Other" row in the Expenditure column and move your capital around until its value is at its lowest. Unfortunately, due to the size of the map, some regions will always be too far away.

To deal with Squalor, the most effective method is to reduce the population of the region. If the settlements are already rebel-held, consider sacking or exterminating the populace. Please note that sacking and exterminating will reduce your global reputation, and it should be sparingly used if you wish to have a good reputation. The point is moot however if there are less than four factions left on the map as you will not be able to keep a good reputation as time passes.

Another method of reducing the population of the region is to encourage the settlement to riot for a turn. When rioting, buildings may get damaged and people may die, sometimes by the thousands. Then restore the public order for the next turn. After that, repeat the step until the settlement is suitably pacified from having lost a lot of its population.

There are a few more options in improving the public order of a settlement. The next easiest is to increase the size of the garrison, until the garrison bonus reaches a maximum of +80% to public order. After that, building the town hall series of buildings, places of religious worship will slowly improve the public order. There are other buildings that promotes public order like the brothel series of buildings.

As for taking screenshots, you can hit the Print Screen button. The game will then create a screenshot in the "./tga" folder of your M2TW installation. You will need a program that is able to read the TGA screenshots (eg: Photoshop, GIMP, IrfanView) in order to convert them into JPG or other suitable formats.

if you are desperate, and want to finish quickly, exterminate the population of the nefarious cities/castles and they should stay calm, untill you get your hands on all at least.

If you don't have software that can read .tga files, save yourself the trouble and just use friggin paint. Press print screen in game, then alt-tab to windows, start paint and press ctrl-V (or just click paste in the menu), save as JPG and you're done. You can upload the image to an image storage site like imageshack.us and then use the direct link to post it here.

Ah! That explains the rare screenshot with excessive white canvas/borders.

Even in paint you can cut away those white borders you know... It's a legit method and I don't really see the necessity of your post, painter.

One can use the paint trick told by lennert or use an external program like photo capturing tool like fraps etc.

But for AAR guys that like to take good pics and have a small monitor i recommend them using the .tga files as gimp can open them and save them as regular photo formats like .jpg , .bmp, .png etc.
With .tga thingy one can capture photos of high quality explained here:-

I say why the hell even bother i say as in game M2TW provides the option to take screenshots of super duper quality in .tga format.

For this here is what you do say you have a big screen and your resolution is like 2560x1920 and you want double the size of image that is 5120x3840.

So here is what you do you open the .cfg file of your mod and put this line under [video] section that is:-
    Code:
    tga_width = 5120
And save it and now whenever you will press Print Scn button you get a 5120x3840 dimension pic it was like 56MB on my PC.

Anyways the point of this is users who love making AARs and like show there mods etc for previews and have small displays can use this trick to show crystal clear pics.

    Like an example of it:-
A small section from 2560x1920 pic:-

To get up to date: I now have control of every region - however the game has not ended?

There are still a few rebel armies around and, of course, the pope. So it appears it will not end until I have the only personnel on the map! To be honest I may just call it a day!

You need to complete the campaign objectives before the turns remaining runs out. For example, in an unmodded Imperial grand campaign as England, you will need to conquer 45 regions including Jerusalem before 200+ turns are up. It will then show you an ending video clip celebrating your success and then ask you if you wish to continue playing or not. Either you succeed or fail at this, the game will allow you to continue playing on long after the turns remaining are up. I've seen a screenshot of the world still stuck to fighting with cavalry in the year 2000.

World Domination is one of those things that 'just has to be done' when the thought sets in. Can get hard work though after a while and these days I usually consider it 'job done' when I've clobbered everything but the Americas...usually too knackered out by then for all that

Painter - 2000! I was on 3000 +! It's still exactly the same troops though an art gallery did appear as one of the buildings to buy which was a bit of a surprise? ( Just a coincidence that your name is painter!)

It's Empires and Napolean for me now!
