    Default Poor Performance

Now I have no clue why I am getting such poor performance. Full stack vs full stack, zoomed in on the action I get around 11 FPS...which is odd, it really is just this game.

    Specs:

    AMD Phenom II x4 965 - 3.4 ghz
8 gigs of memory (Gskill) 1333mhz, cas 9
    ATI 5870 1GIG

All drivers have been updated (Ran a driver sweeper to remove the old, then installed 10.12 for the video card)

    Any ideas?

If you need dx logs just let me know.

    Maybe too new.

On the serious note, the cpu is good but the game will only use one core, 4gigs is plenty because the game might see the first three, no large memory addresses for anything baove, and 1gig cards are newer than the game.

Have you installed directx 9.0c manually, assuming Vista or Win 7.
    Have you install .Net 4?

    Default Re: Poor Performance

Net 4 is installed but I did not manually install dx9. Will do so now, didn't even think about it. thanks!

On a side note, I know this game...and most other games won't use anywhere near that amount of memory. But with the work I do, I tend to use a few virtual machines at any given time, hence all the memory.

    Update:

Installed Net 4 just fine, downloaded a copy of DX 9 c, but when I ran it it said it was up to date and the install had completed, so no idea if that actually did anything or not. Still, no joy.

Vista or 7, disable the UAC, download it to your desktop and run it form there.

Disabled UAC, re download DX9c to desktop, installed still telling me its all up to date.

    Still no joy.

Set the Catalyst Control Center to application controlled and set your graphics ingame. You may have to play with the settings to get the right mix. This game handles battles great with 512mb vram but 1 gig takes work from the user because the game does not know how to handle it.

You may also have to massage descr_auto_optimize_options.txt to get full benefits.

"You may also have to massage descr_auto_optimize_options.txt to get full benefits."

huh? Where and how do I go about doing that?

Here is my dxdiag if you need it, or if anyone needs it. Thanks for your help.

    Nice rig.

    I have a Phenom II x4 3ghz, 4gb ram, and a 512mb 9800GT with Win 7 Pro 64bit.

If I can fight some good battles on 1280 x 1024, you should be able to with yours. One player is running 2-5750s in crossfire at 2560 x 1600 so you should get good results.

The file is in the data folder.

    Quick question for you,

What settings do you run at, and what do your fps look like in a one stack vs one stack battle?

The last battle I fought was a fortress with default unit sizes and all the detail high or better, in a snowstorm, and there it was smooth all the way.
Fps? I never measures it but my eyes do know slowdowns and there were none.

ALright, i'll see what I can do with the file you gave me. Not much, I have no idea what I am looking at lol.

I wish I could figure this out, machine should be more then capable of running it well, but as of now it runs like total crap.

    Thanks for your help.

Alright well I'm about to give up on this. Nothing I seem to do can make it any better.

I don't know why it is running so badly, don't think it happens to be my machine, everything else runs just fine.

Gave it a good couple of tweaks, even messed around in CCC, just can't seem to squeeze any more performance out of it. Zooming in on a battle with it running at 17 FPS is just...blah lol.

Empire and Napoleon run absolutely beautiful on max settings, but this just crawls along.

    -insert shrug here- Eh, whatever.

Thanks for your help, it was a good show

Have you tried disabling the CCC and just use the ingame graphics options? In some cases there is a conflict.

    Default Re: Poor Performance

I have set everything to application controlled in CCC, still no joy. Nothing seems to make it better, or worse lol. Well it does, it increases or decreases performance when ZOOMED OUT in relation to what I change. As of right now, zoomed out from a battle I get almost 200 FPS, but as soon as I zoom in....15 or lower.

It takes a lot more power to draw the animations zoomed in than the sprites zoomed out. The way this this game only uses one core of the cpu and tries to cram everything through it, it maybe bottlenecking. It still beats the 11 or so you were getting.

Hmmmm, well I have a good aftermarket cooler here, and temps are good. I'm going to try giving it an overclock to see if it is what is bottle necking it, just for s and giggles.
