    Default Arnor General portraits

Hey guys, I was wondering whether anybody else gets annoyed by the "North men portraits" used on Arnor generals, which would be mostly men of Dunedain descent or of mixed Dunedain descent, instead we have some portraits of men with blonde hair and Rohan helmets and one with a chubby LOTR fan looking guy.

I have no modding skills whatsoever, so I was wondering if somebody who does would like to create a sub mod to get better portraits for Arnor/Eriador, preferably men of rugged/kingly/dunedain looks. We could probably scab some of the Gondor portraits for Arnor/Eriador too. I'm desperately seeking somebody who can do this or at least help a bit

If somebody could do this, the Arnor/Eriador faction would be almost perfect IMO

If you would like this sub mod too please show your interest

I was thinking a group of us should get together and make a portrait packet containing people's "real" pictures for leaders of a faction, obviously one of the human factions.

    ...why? Sheer fun value!

Good idea though, maybe not even as a submod - it's possible if enough interest is generated they can be updated in a future patch.

There's a few portraits in game that are real people, I think.

The initial King of Rhun (forget the title) looks identical to the guy who played King Miraz in the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian movie, and two of the generals from that movie make an appearance too: Dirar, the Haradrim General in the Fellowship campaign looks like Lord Sopespian, and Lord Glozelle makes an appearence as either a Rhunic or Haradrim general too.

Well, most generals, or at least when they come to age, are 16

It is easy to make you to look older. It just requires a little photo editing.

Hi my name is Louis and I made all of 450 TA portraits. Portraits are culture based, meaning that all northmen faction (Dale, Rohan and Eriador/Arnor) share the same portraits. So if you change all portraits to Arnor guys then you would be fighting Rohan and Dale generals with Arnor portraits.

It's the same problem with Isengard's Uruk hai and Rhun's fox helmet guys.

The reason I gave preference to Rohan is due to their greater importance in books and movie and have a vast pool of potential portraits.

    Things you could do are:

1- Say to hell with that and include Arnor portraits anyway, although their pool of potential portraits is significantly smaller so they would mostly be composed of Gondor portraits.

2- Make Eriador/Arnor part of Gondor's culture, they would share the same Interface, buildings and portraits. The downside would be to remove the gondor portraits with helmet since they would look weird in the Arnor generals.

3- Give Arnorian looking portraits to all starting generals.

I think the best solution is 2.

Culture for Arnor changes to Dunedain, however, so why don't we start seeing Dunedain (Gondor) portraits for Arnor? Arguably that would be much better than having an army full of fat bearded men.

The dunedain culture in the game is really a masked vanilla religion, it's not that culture I'm talking about.

Ah. Could you not devise a way for each faction to have its own culture then?

No it's hardcoded, there are only 7 slots I think.

Yes! I like option 2, as long as its possible to weed out portraits with the Gondorian helmets without ruining Gondor's portraits. However I have no idea how to do all of this

also, for Valandil's idea, look at my profile and see if you think I would be capable to be used as a general. I am the guy in the middle of the picture on my profile.

I think so! Photoshop programs to get an armored helmet on to you and you're golden!

To Gondor: Bravo! I recognize some of the people in-game, I just thought it'd be funny to collect some from TWC members for another sub-mod. I'm sure there are people out there who want to crush an army "led" by me into dust.

Haha. That would be fun, especially if the generals looked like Finlander's avatar.... just saying

And I'm glad you noticed that too. I wasn't sure if I was just seeing things!

You are not seeing things I used characters from other movies to increase the amount of portraits, most are from Narnia because it's similar to LOTR and was also worked on by WETA designs.

That was a good idea, the portraits from Narnia look very good, it suits LOTR perfectly

For some reason or another, TATW still has an unused culture slot (Mesoamerican, I believe). There's a submod in progress that will assign this culture slot to Isengard, but I see potential for it it be used for either Eridaor/Arnor or Rhun.

At the moment, the six TATW cultures are as follows:
    Northern European: Northmen
    Southern European: Dwarves
    Eastern European: Orcs
    Greek: Elves
    Middle Eastern: Evil Men
    Mesoamerican: N/A
    Gondor: Dunedain

Yes, the empty culture slot was renamed Gondor. For best use of the Mesoamerican slot, I'd say split Evil Men into Southrons and Easterlings, though I'd also support an Eriador/Arnor culture. I guess you could rename the Dunedain culture to Southern Dunedain and Mesoamerican to Northern Dunedain.

Sounds good to me, we could either split it into Northern and Southern Dunedain or just use different letters in each one. For example for the Dunedain for Gondor theres a weird letter in there to make it look more authentic, maybe we could have the Arnor culture just have the normal letters
