Default My main TW gripe, so which TW is best for me?

I've played TW shogun, and medieval, and having just built a new PC I could get the modern ones too, it'll run Napoleon no trouble.

But I find the end game of TW a bit dull. At the start of a campain I can't get enough, and time flies by. Once the result is no longer in doubt, it just becomes a tedious excercise where I spend most of my time micro managing my empire, and little time fighting. I do like the strategy involved as well as the fighting, but once you're into the end game, the strategy is out the window, it's just mopping up.

    So...
are any of the series less effected by this inevitable problem with a stratagy game like TW?

    Thanks

    play Civ IV.

Great game, dirt cheap (currently 6,25€ at steam including all addons), and great mods.

Fighting takes getting used to, but you get strategy instead.

I started on Civ when it was released in 1991, and it has the same problem. I prefer TW really.

Ah but Sword of Islam for Civ IV (the mod that he linked) effectively eliminates that problem through emerging factions.

Or you could try a mod like the one below, which includes the "Revolutions" mod. That mod causes bloated empires to fragment due to internal rebellion (and emerging rebel civs)... if you can't keep your cities happy of course.

I can't really commit to the time for multiplayer. I like both the strategy and battles in TW, are any of the TW games more streamlined to make managing your empire easier?

    Try Roma Surrectum 2.

It is pretty amazing what they have managed to do with that old engine.

For added challenge, play it on the Alex engine.

It is really immersive & challenging.

That really puts the Feline amongst the Avians!

Thanks all. Well I posted this thinking I wouldn't be surprised if Steam did an offer for Napoleon and Empire - and they didn't disappoint, and at £15 for the lot (exapansions etc) I couldn't turn it down.
I have to try Rome first though I think. I think I'll only play it once, I'll just have to put up with the dull end game
