Quick question:
From Rome I was used to being able to capture buildings like towers during a siege so they would stop firing at me. In M2TW this seems not possible, why?
I use M2TW 1.3 without kingdoms and have only the 1.6 Ultimate AI installed.

Because the enemy towers only shoot at you when their is a flag on top of it and that is when the enemy is near it if thats not the case they don't fire at all.
In M2, towers don't shoot into the settlement like they did in Rome, so your troops still won't get shot up.
You can still capture gates, but it won't bar enemy entry, only allow yours.
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)

Would anyone mind telling me exactly what is required to capture the gate?
I think I'm missing something because as far as I know, it has to do with getting your own troops to the other side of the gate. However, I've run into a problem when the enemy sallies forth during a siege (when I don't have any siege equipment) and then during the battle routs back to the town square. If I haven't managed to take the gate while the enemy is routing, I can't get in and have to withdraw and start the siege all over.
This doesn't make sense (since the game does seem to try to be true to real life) because even if your army is entirely cavalry, whilst you can't get past the walls you could still cut off supplies and starve them out. The only way for them to stop you is to attack you and make you move... not attack you, give up and run back behind their walls to magically restored food stockpiles.

You must have more troops at the gate than the enemy to capture it.
Just like when you capture the Center Plaza, you have to outnumber them.
FYI, you CAN starve them out. just let your army stand there and maintain the siege. Eventually, they will be forced to surrender.
I can´t remember anytime that the enemys´ food supplies were restored after they sallied and failed (maybe they snuck out while your troops were busy and stole some supplies from your camp)

Silverheart, he probably meant that he was forced to leave the battlemap because the game won't progress, which lifts the siege.
