    Default Hard Drive Issue

Hello Basement... Long time, no see.

Long story short, I built a new computer for my friend. He bought the HDD himself and gave it to me to use with the rest of the build. The HDD wasn't partitioned/formatted, so I had to put it in my computer to do that. However, when I try to view it in Device manager, it says it only has 16 MB... and when I try to do anything with it, it says that the disk volume is corrupted. Is there any way of fixing it? I'd hate to have him fork out even more money for another HDD, especially when he's depending on me to save money.

If you're installing Vista or Win 7, put in the disk and format it over. These things are getting cpu/motherboard dependent and getting hard to swap between pcs.

Yes like Sir Ron said boot you PC with the OS disk and then try to format your 2ndary drive from there if it fails there then the disk is a brick.

When I try to install Windows 7 on his new computer, it doesn't recognize his Hard Drive. Is there any way of fixing this?

Well considering it's the only HDD plugged in then it should detected are the platters etc moving you can touch and know if it's working i mean mechanically atleast.

It sounds like it's working. It doesn't show up on the Hard Drive list or in the command prompt. It does, however, show itself in the BIOS.

    Go

My computer - manage - disk management and there if HDD was recognized in bios ( during startup ) it should be there. Then format it.

It I put it in my computer, it shows it with 9-16 MB of space. I think it's a brick, since it was able to pick up another HDD of mine on the other computer.

Have you tried to format it in disk management?

Yes. I've tried it in Disk Management on another system. Only appeared to have 16-9 MB of space. I've tried it in the Windows 7 installation process. Same thing.
