So, what's the latest and greatest way to monitor your CPU temperature? I have Vista 32bit if that makes a difference...

I like to run CPU-Z and RealTemp to monitor the hardware and temps, and then run Prime95 for the stress test (Furmark for gpu stresstests)...I can't state that these are the best programs, but I like them because they are easy to use and understand.
I just use SpeedFan, it has a relatively good system tray tool that just sits there and updates the temp. For instantaneous temps, I use CPUID HWMonitor, it works well, shows a master list of all the temps in your system (all gpus, cpu cores, etc) as well as voltage and all that good stuff. Not sure if it has a system tray tool or not.
Use just one software to monitor your entire hardware:-

HWMonitor for me. Speedfan is good, but it often uses "CPU temp" which measures the temperature of a sensor next to the CPU socket to determine my CPU temperature when minimised. This is opposed to Core temps, which are taken from the actual CPU. Never made sense. My CPU temp could be up to 20c off compared to my actual core temps.
Huh, i haven't encountered that issue before. It gives me the option of four or five case temps and then the temp of each of my cores. I'll look into HWMonitor's system tray optiona, to try and minimize the number of applications I use to monitor. Thanks mrcrusty
Well, it may be because I use an AMD system, but here's what I mean:
Funnily enough, when minimised to tray, speedfan displays the "system" temperature. That only just complicates things more.
AFAIK though, HWMonitor doesn't have a system tray option.
Also, ignore the AUXTIN. Apparently that's really buggy. And the CPU fan. Fortunately, I don't have any fans that run at 17k RPM.![]()
