    Default Stone Forts

I remember there was discussion about making castles buildable like forts I forgot the outcome but I think it was decided against. Anyways I came across a thread about custom forts one of the examples (an eastern fort) had stone walls. I thought this might be a good compromise, a strong fort incapable of producing or refitting units. I dont know if you could use this or not but it seemed like a cool idea.

Edit: Tried it works perfectly .

Except the first one they arent worth using, IMHO. And the first one has unfortunatley nothing to do with medieval period.

No but the idea of stone forts or mini castle like the third may apply. I just played as the romano's defending against the franks on the the third, it was awsome. The inner mote/ditch was the best part to defend or at least the most fun.

The eastern factions could use the stone fort, I think stone fortifications were more common in the me than europe in the early era.

If you dont want to use it no big deal you'd need the guys permission first anyways.

The forts will become more like lightly defended camps than mini-castles. Adherbal said he'd just give them some spikes maybe, which would seem more realistic. IMO the eastern one is a bit too well made for realism, we're talking about just a mock-up position for the troops to rest and gain a bit of a defensive advantage, rather than a fully blown castle.

Yes, spikes and maybe some moat is fairly good enough. I agree.

The area is still going to have to be pretty big, i mean where do you put several thousand soldiers.

I like the idea of fortified camps.

they won't be siegable forts, but fortified positions (spikes, motes and ditches) that give the defender some advantages. Think of battles in the 100 years wars were the english longbowmen used fortified positions to defeat the french cavalry, or the french field camp armed with artillery that stopped the english attack.

That sounds pretty cool. Just out of curiosity can you place a city plan or in CTW's case a castle plan in the settlement _plans folder and work like a fort?

Edit: Tried it, swapped barbarian large city for roman fort, I had to delete the buildings like barraks etc. When I got it to play chunks of ground were just missing outside of the city, and it had wood walls
