    Default Overpowered Roman Empire

Anyone else finding these guys are way too overpowered in early era on hard/hard. They have taken over half the map, are enemies with every faction and there standard infantry seems to be 8 attack and 16-18 defence. Any tips when dealing with them? Apart from lowering dificulty.....

    They're not.

    Compare some unit rosters:

At the time they were the most powerful state in the Mediterranean. They were the only one with a professional standing army. The roster is designed to be very strong in the early era but as time progresses they get left behind technologically and have to rely more and more on mercenaries (as it was historically).

Does this actually happen in game? A strong early period, but lagging behind in the high and late period? It seems during the early period the player can get such a huge amount of territory that the later era weaknesses can be overcome by your huge economy and army.

The problem is historically they were a collection of states, but MTW2 treats them as a nation state. Personally I find that their strong position is balanced by their terrible position because all the other nations will attack them resulting in the AI being confused where to send its armies

I play as the Turks and I took Constantinople in the 2nd turn through Jihad. I managed to take half of the Roman empire (what they start with), but they still managed to push into Africa and the middle east and hold back Venice and Poland. No matter how many armies I execute or cities I take, they come back with more and more full stacks. It seems that the Roman units are ridiculously cheap...

They're overpowered in Early and terrible in Late era campaigns. I have gifted 100k to the Roman empire, helped them take constantanople.. only to have them lose it to the hungarians in 4 turns. Roman empire in SS is the weirdest faction as in two diffrent campaigns you will face diffrent types. Tho in Early I ate them because within 20 turns they pretty much eliminate the Turks and everyone in the area.

Roman Empire (byzantines to many of us) was indeed the weirdest state of all! As Ceasar Clivus said they were the only state with proffesional standing army (like the moder armies of our times). It was the richest by far (an emperor bribed some of his ennemies with 100000 gold coins when all the rich courts of the rest of europe could not gather such an amount of maney).
It had the strongest navy. But...it was the only state that dispanded its forces just because emperors afraid that they would loose their thone.
It was the only state that dispanded its own navy and paid other states for their navies.
Hyperpyra (the golden coins of the empire) were the standard coin of the global trade from London to China untill 1204!

The story of medieval Romans is one of the weirdest in entire human history.
TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.

Well, in early era they have some of the best-developed settlements and a strong standing army, weak neighbours to expand into. In late era they just have a few regions, nothing too fancy, very powerfull rebels and neighbours that can crush them with ease. Hungary on the other hand won't put up much of a fight in early era, but will dominate the area in late era.

I'm playing an Early Holy Roman Empire campaign and the Byzantine Empire is going crazy. Luckily I'm allied with them, but they've subjugated Hungary, half way wiped out the Cumans, pushed Turkey out of Anatolia and the Holy Land, took out Poland, and took half of Kiev's possessions. They're on a rampage!!!

    Same here .

I also play HRE about 1125 (submod is starting in 1100) and Byzzies got half of the Eastern map.
They steamrolled Venice, Hungary, Turkey, Kiev and fighting now Poland, Cumans, Egypt and South of Italy.

I got a border with them at Vienna and I am really scared about them because I am busy with fighting Danmark, Genua and Norway and I don't need any additional front with Giant Byzzies to be honest.

I have to go to war against them too stop them taking over all of europe. But they stack spearmen with attributes higher than my elite units. No crap they are at war with every faction but 1..........and winning.
