Default Radeon 6950? More like Radeon 6970.

The Radeon 6950 is already a decent value card but now it's even better value.

Wizzard from TPU (GPU-Z creator, GPU modder), has reported that reference board HD 6950 can unlock to fully functioning HD 6970s with a simple BIOS flash!

This is made even better because the new 69xx cards are built with dual BIOS, so if the BIOS flash doesn't go well, you simply flip a switch and revert back to the default BIOS. Gone are the days of bricking a card with a bad BIOS flash.

Gah, I don't need something as powerful as either 69xx card, but my tweaker senses are tingling. I really want to pull the trigger on a 6950 since they aren't too expensive.

You were just saying you thought you should sell your 5870 because it is overkill for the games you play so STFU.

Yes well I decided I wanted uber overkill instead of just overkill.

I dunno, I just like the whole tweaking and overclocking aspect of it all. Now I'm split on what I'd actually need (a 6850) and what I'd want (a 6950).

Buy it, tweak it, sell it. Problem solved

That's actually not bad a idea. I could buy it, tweak it and sell it on eBay as a 6970. Ultimate win.

Btw, what res do you game on? I can't imagine Mass Effect 2 needs two GTX 570s for most resolutions.

Brings back memories of the radeon 9500 pro days which with a pencil could be transformed into a 9700 pro. Nice find!

I play ME2 on my 55" HDTV, so 1920x1080. I turn on 4xAA and 4x Supersampling with Nvidia's control panel to gain super smooth edges, that does use a good bit of GPU power.

I just downloaded the PS3 demo of ME2 last night and it looks like crap compared to the PC version. ick The maximum resolution the PS3 can push out for a game like ME2 is 1280x720 and boy does that look cramped... console gamers miss out on so much viewable area at that lower resolution not to mention the complete lack of AA and the annoying tearing in cut-scenes due to the lack of Vsync.

Other than ME, (as far as games that are actually GPU intensive) I play Metro 2033, Crysis, Crysis 2 when it's released.... idk I'm thinking I might downgrade to a pair of GTX560's when they come out if they run cooler and quieter.

Maby I should just buy your 6950/70 after you mess around with it
