I have one question - how do I get spies/armies on to Britain? Can they be brought over on ships? And do I need access to some port in order to do that?

just board them on ships and disembark on any piece of land port or Coast

I think again that this is one terrible mistake made by CA that you can go with spies to islands only with ships. I wanna see a faction who landed his spies to enemy territory with army ships, it would be very smart move what no one cant see.I think spies went to enemy islands with some cargoship or something like that...
Actually I'm pretty sure rakes, who are just Gentlemen Spies, could easily travel to other countries under the guise as normal citizens on holiday or whatever. Easily get on normal ferry ships or trade ships, then just slip into the shadows later.
No need for a freaking military fleet to escort them there, thinking about it now that is a pretty dumbass idea that's highly unrealistic.

If I remember correctly it is not as easy to get agents into Britain in NTW as in ETW.
You have to unload them in a port, which means you have to occupy an ungarrisoned port with the fleet carrying the agents.
I don't remember if they unload automatically or if you have to do it manually. Spies may last a few turns but expect gentlemen to get whacked at once.
Transporting a spie by a first rate is like James Bond being dropped in the south of France by an Aircraft carrier
By ship, anywhere on the coast.
Though not easy when the British have a powerful navy.

My understanding is that if you drop an army/spy off on land, no port, they arrive there fine but lose all movement points. But if you capture a port, and transfer the troops from the fleet to the port (which is a serious pain in the), you will have some movement points left...
