Help please

I just bought Rome gold edition off steam, tried to load it up for the first time and got this error;

"Error file name doesn't exist:
data/animations/engine/ballista/ballista_idle.CAS"

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I don't know much about Steam but you could try redownloading and installing the game. The installation probably messed up and incorrectly placed a file or whatever. I found the file in my own RTW but I don't know how I could send it to you (when i try to add it as an attachment, it says invalid file) or whether it would work.

On steam if you right click the game in the library and hit 'Properties' then follow to the 'Local Files' tab. There should be an option called 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache'
Click it.
What it will do is search for any files that may be broken or missing, it takes a bit. But let it do it's thing. When it finds a missing file it will install that file.
If, however, that doesn't work then maybe a re-install of the game will work.

I'm downloading it again from steam so hopefully that will work, if not I'll try verifying the cache.

A quick question as I don't want to start another thread; any suggestions for a good mod to try out?

I've never really looked into mods.
But some of the popular ones would be Rome: Total Realism and Roma Surrectum (Not sure if I spelt the last one right) both a lot more challenging than the Vanilla imo, but the thread should help you find something you're after.

Roma Surrectum II is an awesome mod. It's the only mod I've really played so far and I'm liking it a lot!

RS2 is kind of complicated, so I would suggest you try XGM first.

Order it off Amazon. Costs 15 bucks, no shipping cost, there in a week, no troubles installing. Hasn't failed me yet.
