    Default Will this be adressed?

I just noticed, and thourough testing proved it:

Equites Clibinarii Parthi are overpowered. I even picked them myself, put on loose formation and let the enemy uber-savaran (the ones who cost 850 denarii and have a mace as secondry weapon) get a full charge on me - and the romans just absolutely slaughtered them.

The Equites Clibinarii Parthi stats will be revised.

Since I now know SAJ 4 won't be coming out for several more weeks, I feel I can give my two cents here: please don't power down the equites parthii cataphracts. They are th only roman cataphract unit I've seen (at least in the 3.0) that have any real chance against the sassanid ultra-cataphracts, and with only being recruitable from one city initially, and a 3-turn recruiting time, I don't think they are unfairly strong. Don't decrease their stats, please! Just leave them as they were.

As I said in the progress thread, roman clibinarii will be comparable with sassanid clibinarii but of course wont be as common, and their unit sizes are slightly smaller, but one on one I would still slightly favour the sassanids as I think it should be.

It WAS so. So people, accept it - the persians had better cav. Actually, the best cav.

A statement so fraught with misconceptions and myth as to hardly bear commenting on.

If the Sasanid cavalry were so powerful, why were any Sasanid armies unable to defeat a Roman field army after 298AD until the 6th Century AD?

Maybe not the BEST, but definitely better than the Romans.

Wouldn't they do that anyway? The mongols were still at least 800 years away.

No, not really. If u paid the great khan your dues and kept your mouth shut u would be fine and could rule your fiefdom with some autonomy with your tongue still attached. However, for this blasphemy and i quote "actually, the best cavarly" then u and your tongue would probably part ways while the rest of your body would serve as a sitting chair for the khan at his victory banquet. Now, to your claim "the mongols were still 800 away" when u say at the same time "actually the best cavarly" then u yourself dissolve the timeframe. Statement cannot be vague.

It's debatable that they had the best cavalry even in late antiquity. Their cavalry was certainly veryvery powerful, but it didn't vastly outclass everyone else, and was even matched by some others.

We do agree though, that it was better when comparing it stricktly to the roman cavalry in the timeframe that they fought each other (late antiquity). Yes, we can even debate who else was there in the same period that could match persian cavarly outside romans. However, to call the persians best cavarly of all times and disregarding Arabs, Turks, Bulgars, Magyars, Mongols, Moguls etc is a bit of a stretch.

Of course, Roman cav was not as good as the cavalry of the Sassanids. Excluding Romans, Sassanid cavalry supremacy one on one is dubious.

I guess Drtad we have no issue here conforming on this subject so the question is addressed to our friend who claims persians as the "best" cavarly and whether he meant it relative to romans alone or to all who ever used cavarly as a force and what criteria he thinks define "best" cavarly. I can understand that these savaran look impressive in their armor but so did the medieval knights and there is much more to the cavalry than just that.

Actually, sorcery was punishable by death during the period from approximately 200AD onwards. But I know what you mean!

It's a shame that Sasanid literature and histories only exist as fragments in later Arabic works, it would have been nice to know their side of the story.

Wow, I just brought this thread up to address a unit's stats, and now its the center of a hotly-feuded cavalry debate and comparison. Yeesh.....
