    Default A question for Americans

Why in God's Name did you elect George W. Bush to be your President? The man is so obviously incompetent that it seems like he should retaking Kindergarten instead of controlling the most powerful nation on Earth. A better question is: WHY THE HELL did you reelect him? He led you into a bloody, pointless, resource consuming War on Iraq over WMDs that didn't actually exist. He overlooked the real threat, Osama bin Laden and invaded a country that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. So, why the hell did you elect him in the first place?

Well if you look at it, he didnt win the popular vote (as far as i remember), so perhaps was a conspiracy!? Or maybe it is just the way the electoral college works so blame them. -Leon

He came off as a moderate, which, he basically is. As opposed to Gore, who was an emotionless stiff who advocated one too many overly-liberal policies that disconnected him with the general public during the Clinton Administration. So you can blame the sheer incompetance of his opposition.

thanks Eric, just what we need another America vs the World thread. well dont blame me, I voted Democrat. Actually IMO, both Kerry and Bush were horrible choices. But Kerry didnt portay himself as strong against terrorism and he wasn't a good speaker. Bush did, thats why he won (that doesn't say much for the people who did vote for him though).

Single-issue parties like the Greens never win big elections. You have be pretty serious about an issue to vote for them.
Socialists are generally more left than most Americans. In the past they have won elections...but that was a different time.
Communists will just plain never win here. America is consistantly becoming more white-collar. Maybe, within the next 50 years, poor immigrants from Central America could form their core. They already vote democrat, which is the liberal end of the spectrum, if for no reason other than the democrats are softer than republicans on immigration

The Republicans and Democrats primarily win because the American political spectrum is generally narrower than the rest of the world's, and because the electoral college favors them hugely. Reps and Dems are usually automatically placed on election ballots, while third-parties often have to pay a comparatively large amount of money, or attain at least 5% of the vote in a previous election, which they rarely do.

As a European I can tell you:
The Americans elected Bush because Karl Rove is a superb campaign leader.
Rove can make Americans vote for whoever he wants.

The common culture of a tribe is a sign of its inner cohesion. But tribes are vanishing from the modern world, as are all forms of traditional society. Customs, practices, festivals, rituals and beliefs have acquired a flut and half-hearted quality which reflects our nomadic and rootless existence, predicated as we are on the global air-waves.

    Well said Wilpuri.
Erik is the first one to criticize Americans for being arrogant. Perhaps he needs to look to himself before criticizing others.

The whole premise of this thread is rediculous. "Why did americans choose to do their constitutional duty and DEMOCRATICALLY ELECT a representative to lead the United States?

Why dont you stop criticizing America, and start criticizing some place that needs to be held a little bit more accountable. Such as North Korea with Kim Il, or Iran with its waco job president who preaches about wiping Isreal off the face of the earth every chance he gets.

But no, lest I forget those are the last places you would every think to criticize, because you sir are a different breed of man. You are the modern day peacenik who believes Castro is a Hero, and Bush is a villian. I pray that your mental disease does not spread to many others, else the world is in for a very grim future.
I used to have a quote from George S. Patton about the Russians, but I guess some might have found it offensive.

Socialist, or Green Party I could accept. It's Communism I have a problem with. It's not that I hate communism, it's that I would pity the Americans who had to live under it. Communism works on paper but is fatally flawed in real life, it is mortally wounded by the greed and inborn ambition of the Human race. Eventually, you get a few unbelievably powerful individuals and the rest are FUBAR. Also, because of the lack of reason to strive for excellence, product quality reduces drastically. In a capitalist or socialist society, you can get promoted for working hard, get more money and have something to make you work harder. In communism, hard work goes unrewarded, because of the 'everything in equality' mindset of Communists. Without a reason to work harder, work gets sloppy, buildings collapse, products fall apart and everything just starts coming apart at the seams.

Ah, finally EXC is here to lend some intellect to the discussion and I agree with everything Eric said, all reasons why I find it hard to take the so called communists on this board seriously. I'm not gonna say how I feel about the main topic yet because I wanna see where this thread goes but Ill come along later and lend my ideas on this...

I am taking AP government this year. My teacher is honestly the most racist, hypocritical, intellectually challenged liberal (Fun Fact: Did you know arabs are the only ethnic group of importance in the middle east?) I have ever met. I'm not sure if TWC is good practice for that class, or if that class is good practice for TWC.

Why in God's name did you start another thread about bashing America and G.W. Bush? I swear, people need to let this go.
