    Default Black Ops(-DirectX) problem

    Black Ops unplayable. Help very very very appreciated Hi guys, I just bought COD7 BO, installed it, but every time the screen goes black after the intro movie in the campaign, and it freezes after few seconds in MP.

    Things I've tried

    -putting the settings lowest-highest
    -installing older drivers and latest drivers (10.7)
    -reinstalling 1000 times DirectX
    -reinstalling the game
    -looking for support in their forums, and trying these:    -destroyed 34 keyboards, 10 mouses and 24 headphones

    Or, if you're lazy to check the DxDiag, my specs:
    -CPU: Intel i7 860 2.80 Ghz
    -RAM: 4GB
    -GPU: Ati HD5670 1GB by Asus
    -OS: XP 32-bit (so I have DirectX is 9.0c, is there any way of getting DX11, btw?)

    After I minimized the non-responding game, it said things like either "Could not read memory instructions at x" (this reminds me of ETW) or something that Direct3D, from DirectX, is broken. However, I tested Direct3D with DxDiag and it works normally.


    I really really want to play this game, and I would be more than grateful if anyone would come up with a solution to me.

    Black Ops is a notorious PC port failure, it works fine for some people, some can't get it to work at all, and some get terrible FPS even on low settings with high end GPU's. I can't help you fix Treyarch's mistakes but I can answer your question regarding DX11. With Windows XP you cannot use either DX10 or DX11, you would need to upgrade to Vista or Windows 7 to do so. Your GPU is certainly DX11 ready.

    Ok.... so it's a failure on PS3 as well.

    However, as much as it sold several millions in one day, millions of people have also experienced problems and were not able to play the game upon receipt of their respective copies. This can be a sign that the developer, Treyarch, lacked something resulting to hundreds of problems experienced by millions of gamers around the world using different platforms. Just recently, Treyarch and Activision released the Black Ops Patch 1.05 which was supposed to fix the most common problems experienced by the gamers especially PS3 owners. The patch did not go as expected because beside of fixing the problems, it worsens them.
    Keep in mind this is nearing 2 months after the game was released....

    You bought the game and you are stuck with it now best thing you could do is at least check this game on Vista & 7 having DX10 & 11 respectively(friend's PC) maybe the game is playable on those OSs.

    Also it's time to upgrade to Win7 my man you got a DX11 card and you are not taking the benefit of it.

    A 5670 wouldn't really be powerful enough to do anything with DX11 tho.

    Well, I have 2 friends who have their own copies of Black Ops, both with computers with 7. It works for one friend (dunno what graphic card he has) and for the other one it works like on lowest settings (he has an nVidia 8600 or 8900GT).

    Indeed, I'd better wait one more year before upgrading to W7, so I'll get more RAM and a 6xxx/7xxx card too
