    Default Multiple walls

I was going through the threads last night when I came across this: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...4&page=1&pp=20

It appears someone has found out how to make multiple layers of walls. You all may allready know about this but if not I thought it could be usefull to the mod.

Several layers of walls would be nice!

That's because they were for the early period.

There is one small problem: you will need a huuuuuuge army to storm one of those castles.

Of course we wouldn't make the castles as big as Rome. We've actually cut them down alot, so that now with a fair sized army you could surround it pretty easily. I wouldn't expect a concentric castle to be much larger, so I'm thinking it'd come down more to the size of the defending army and the size of the attacking army.

So now we can actuall properly lay seige, ie completely surround a castle (or close enough). Deployment zones would be annoying, but it'd be cool to completely surround em. If the AI could do this is it might also be fun to try and break a seige.

It'd good to be able to limit garrison size according to the level of the fortification.

2 rings of walls... I guess they aren't both scalable, and the 2nd ring is just to create chokepoints?

The example I saw both layers required siege equipment.

are you talking about this: http://img221.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ss15jp.jpg ???

If so that is very cool, but how is the AI going to manage?? It would mean having to bring equipment through the first wall, or using artillery to take out the 2nd wall. Is equipment (like a trebuchet) going to be a unit or siege equipment??

Just watched kingdom of fire so I'm in the mood for same medieval flavor.

Yep, Adherbal said he'd leave the second ring gate's open so the AI doesn't stuff up and also because of the difficulties of getting siege engines to work there.

Sounds fine. That 2nd ring is still extremely useful even if it's only to create chokepoints. Will the units be able to be placed on the 2nd ring (and AI be able to handle that)?? Sounds like sieges will be very exciting. I like the smaller area (castle/town) to defend, AI should handle that better. If you haven't already, maybe you could think about using a garrison script (like spqr will do)??

We're hoping that you will be able to put troops on the finished second wall. The best thing I like about the sieges is they have more variety compared to RTW. Someone mentioned before that one of the worst things about RTW is that in any town other than barbarian ones, just about every street becomes a chokepoint, which is really poor when you're the attackers. In chivalry when you lose the walls their are no chokepoints really (at least not obvious ones like in RTW), so you naturally look for other places to defend like the motte. The AI suprisingly doesn't handle this too bad, they usually try to place men at breaches in the wall and archers on the motte.

    What is SPQR's garrison script?

lt of SPQR has developed a script where the AI will automaticly generate a defencive force of milita and archers when you siege the city.

Adherbal has access to this script also if he wishes to use it. EB will be using a similar garrsion script also. So I am sure you will see something similar in C:TW

I know I cant wait to play a good medieval game like this! been waiting a while for this one. ;-)

We plan to release a beta sooner than we were going to, but it wont include all the features we had hoped for. There will be sort of a playable campaign though, so that should be good enough.

lt, thanks for the offer, we probably don't need it just yet but we may do something like that, it's Adherbals call.
