    Default Altering descr_strat

    Hey folks,

Quick question here. I usually like to (in vanilla) alter descr_strat for a couple things - giving certain factions larger starting stacks, more starting purses, better traits on characters, etc.

I tried to do this with SS, by going to Mods > SS6.3 > data > campaign > early > descr_strat, and making the changes I wanted, but they don't seem to show up when I start a new early era campaign. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks!

Just at a quick glance, if you select different mods via the SS script you are likely to replace that desc_strat file and thus all of your changes will go 'poof.'

Be sure of which mods you want to use, then once you choose them, do not re-select a new or old configuration of the sub-mods in said script without first backing up the files you made modifications to since your previous sub-mod selection choice.

You might also try deleting the map.rwm file in the world > maps > base file, it has been awhile since I worked on a mod in M:TW2 but I recall that being needed for certain map-related changes. Whether or not those were desc_strat changes currently alludes me. I am sure it will come to me.

Haven't touched any of the scripts since I set them, and don't intend to.

I'll give the map thing a try.

Edit: Nope, didn't change a thing.

I am sure it has to be something deceptively simple.

You are editing the wrong file for the changes. If You change there YouŽll have to run the setup.exe again. If You want to change directly YouŽll have to look for the descr_strat file in the "data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign folder.

True, True, that's the location and lol the OP screwed up the backup for early campaign, anyways no problem just swap the files and you will be good.

Having the same problem! Those things you've suggested so far dont seem to help. I always alter the desc_strat and save it etc it seems that SS6.4 makes this alot harder. Ive heard it has been suggested that after altering it, you should go throught the SS setup thing to start a new campaign (early or late), but this doesnt seem to work either. Maybe even avoids your changes maybe? Yes, im editing the right strat file and have backups.... Spent ages editing and has had no affect this time

You edit the right descr_strat.txt file that is always in this location:-
    .....Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder
After that you launch the game directly without going through the SS_setup.exe as that replaces this file to default again.

When using Windows it is always advisable to check that the saved file is going to be saved in the correct location.
Some progs will save to the last opened folder.
Go right through the directory to ensure the folder is the right one.

Right, all i change in the desc_strat. file is the kings purse for most factions, one characters age from 29 to 21 and the TPY to 0.50! I put the new strat file into the Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder and also the Medieval II Total War\mods\SS6.3\data\campaign\early\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder (as has been suggested) and i still keep getting the CTM, which i assumed meant the crash to menu.

Ive checked and i cant be leaving spaces where i shouldnt be, cos im just editing one or 2 numbers and thats it. My love of SS is starting to waver and i dont want it to retreat! Shogun total war is staring at me on my shelf (my lack of a good comp/laptop prevents me from playing empire and shogun2. sad times!)
