Default Rome: Total War will not fit screen.

Although I feel quite cheeky for signing up and immediatley asking help of the community, I still would like to solve a problem that's been a thorn in my side for quite some time.

I understand many widescreen problems have been posted, but they are all about the option not being available and it stretching.
My problem is that the game simply does not fit. The game leaves black outlines where it can't fit the screen.

My resolution is 1440x900 and I also use a dual monitor set up, now at lower resolutions my mouse goes onto the second screen, so if I try and click "End Turn" I just end up tabbing out of the game, so esentially my game is unplayable at this moment in time. Also ticking the 'Widescreen' option simply does nothing at all.

    What I have tried:

    • Changing the resolution to a lower one.
    • Changing the resolution & Widescreen option
    • Using "Auto Adjust" on my monitor (Does nothing at all, again.)

For some reason, this was working before, I had the resolution set to 1390x1024 (Maybe it was 1320, I can't remember) but there was still a bit of space to the right although my mouse never lead off to the second screen as it does now.
When I try this same thing again I get quite a bulk of space to the right and a bit of the bottom isn't filled either. I can provide a screenshot if it becomes needed.

The game is older than widescreen popularity.
    There is
    Code:
    USE_WIDESCREEN:FALSE
you can set to true in the preferences.txt.
The ui will strretch for sure.
This game will never support multiple monitors. Too old.

After that, you have found the rest.

    Sorry.

It's set to true in the options, gah. I'd give anything to have my old fix back, but I guess that isn't so.
Thanks for your help however, at least I got a straight answer and a quick one too

    Found the solution.
I'm not sure why this works but I switched my main monitor to be the one on the right side. This in theory would stop the mouse leading onto the next screen when I went to the side.
And for some reason I can now play the game in my full resolution (1440x900). Only downside is I now have to get used to the main screen being the one on the right.
Ah well, I was rewarded with having a mean general to take out the Gauls

I cannot find the preferences folder in the Rome Total War folder.
Anyone who knows what to do?
