Default Which version for an old laptop?

I have an old laptop that isn't very capable. I used to have SS 6.2 and the RR/RC compilation installed, but it ran too slowly. I understand that the turns go slowly anyway, but my system just exasperates the problem.

So, what version of the game should i play if I wish for faster turns and more fluid gameplay? Would 6.1 be my best bet, or would I be better off trying 6.2 without RR/RC? I really liked the changes that RR/RC brought, so if there is some version of RR/RC that doesn't take so much resources, that would also be great.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think there is a 'faster turn times' mod for RR/RC out, maybe that would suit your needs?

my labtop is from 2006 and its ...but runs the 6.3 fine and with the fixes or compliation turn time is like maybe 2 min. tops usually. its laggy on the campaign map in places and i gotta have unit on medium and grass on low to run battles w/ minimal lag but it's been worth it for me.

2 min is normal, my not-quite-as-old (actually, I think it's from 2007...) computer that was quite the thing back then also takes about 1:30-2:00 minutes per turn. And there've been discussions about reducing strat map lag.

I suggest 6.1 with some submods added (My own? He he), especially with an improved AI either Savage's or Gracul's (Lusted's which come with the 6.1 install is too passive).

6.3 is a great mod, it has everything but I had to stop playing it and go back to 6.1 because I couldn't take the long AI turns (3 minutes in early game and up to 5-6 minutes in midgame). By comparison, I get about 30 seconds early game and a tolerable 2 minutes in midgame with 6.1.

Close enough. Exasperate could also work, since it means to irritate intensely, and my computer irritates the problem intensely (and me).

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. Was there ever a version of RR/RC for 6.1 with turns that don't take 2 minutes at the start and 5-6 minutes later on? Otherwise I think I'll just try 6.1 with submods and maybe try out 6.2 vanilla eventually.

    Thanks again.

6.1 has early versions of RR/RC and BGR included in the patch installer. Read the instructions in the install topic if you select those.
