I have internet connections problems

I can browse the Internet but my Hotmail program is unable to send/receive e-mails, and I can't connect to Steam. With Steam, first it was my Steam cloud then I tried reinstalling, and now it keeps saying there's problems connecting to the Steam servers.

I came home yesterday and I'm connected through Wifi, except I didn't have problems the last time I was here.

I'm kind of stumped.

You aren't being specific enough, it could be loads of things.

1. What kind of Internet connection are you using? This is a typical home broadband setup?
2. When using the problematic connection, where does the wire go? Is it connected to a switch or router, or directly to a modem?
3. If you have a different connection that works, how is that hooked up? Does it get connected to the same router, or when you say you're using Wi-Fi do you mean that you're using someone else's Wi-Fi?
4. Do you have any problems when using other computers on the network?
5. What are the exact error messages you receive from Hotmail and Steam?

I think I've figured out it's a router problem, thanks for the help though.
