Default Auto-Resolve: Do you ever use it?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone does this. I've been thinking about using auto-resolve for all of my battles. Yes, this would take the fun of using strategies in the battles out of the equation, but I feel like it might make up for itself in making the game more fair for the AI. What do you guys think?

I only use it for sieges that would take too long or I'd lose too many men no matter what I'd do. AR gives me a chance of losing 70 men as opposed to 200.

Of course, sometimes it likes to throw that in my face, and make me lose the battle with 800 casualties against 300 men.

i use it all sieges i am attacking (i'm terrible at it) and almost all defending. For battles i am probably going to win, i use it. if i am certainly going to lose, i use it.
EDIT: btw, you should create a poll for this.

I too use it only when in siege, only when attacking and only when it gives me a better result than I would have gotten otherwise. I hate having cavalry in streets, waiting for ages at siege towers/ladders, and having to slain every single enemy in the city square without any routing. Especially if there are several generals, family members the faction leader there. If I use auto-resolve otherwise, its almost exclusively in insignificant battles against a few rebels. To me, the whole point of M2TW is the tactical bit. The strategic map is just something I have to deal with to get a narrative going.

(I liked the campaign map in CIV IV a lot more. Would love to have a game combining the best of both: Functioning diplomacy, the abililty to create and destroying cities etc combined with the awesome tactical battles of M2TW)

I almost never use it in SS, unless I'm fighting a couple dozen rebels in a battle that I'll easily win and don't need to waste the time fighting it.

I did an AAR of Pontus in Rome Total Realism where I autoresolved all battles not involving the King and I actually lost to the AI. As in, was totally destroyed, all cities taken, game over. It was really fun, and it was nice to have a hard challenge.

The only times I use it is when i'll surely lose a battle.. usually involves my units in transition getting attacked...

Ill use it in a siege were it will make me lose less men. Ill never use it defending a siege as ive found that most of the time its almost impossible to lose a siege if you play your cards right, even if that means fighting to a draw. and if theres a battle im certainly going to lose or win. The only time i wont use it in an attacking siege is if i have good artillery and i can just pound holes in there walls surround and destroy.

I use it only in sieges vs 1 single unit or when one of my armies is defeated in battle but the FM leading the army survives and retreats... only to be attacked again before my turn comes up. If you auto resolve its very rare the FM will die whereas if you go into the battle and already tried to withdraw once you can't a 2nd time and must charge the enemy and usually fight until FM is dead rather than fleeing with his life.

Well Lemmie see.... I used to be an auto-calc Prince but in SS6.3 with RR that puts a dead stop to this practice, at least in the campaign's early going. {unit replenishment issues...yo..}.

Now if it's an ordinary siege and I have say two stacks there, then I'll save and then give it a try.

Now once my core cities are established the AI better tremble with fear, cuz I'll double stack common militia units and come after them....

I've been using auto-resolve recently for an increasing amount of battles, because it keeps giving me nice heroic victories against the odds... one of my generals now has 9 command stars because of auto-resolve battles.

For battles which I know I would win.

For battles which I know I would win BUT the AI won't let me win, I use auto_resolve attacker/defender. (There was a town called Bordeaux that was besieged nearly 10 times. The first 6 times I defended it against an impossible army. I had only 1 row of troops against a fully stack force and I beat them back with Heroic Victories. So yeah, its fair that I cheat that way.

I use it for battles against horse archers because I find them a tedious pain to fight.

Also I will sometimes use autoresolve for the many spammy battles of the SS endless-money-AI. Sometimes, there's a new siege assault against one of my cities every or every second turn for decades, and it becomes something of a job to do.

I only auto resolve when odds are 3:1 or higher as I cannot be bothered to fight these battles. Otherwise I fight every other battle, 'Practise makes Perfect'. I try different units in different ways, experiment new angles, basically for me its all about the battles. The building things and diplomacy I find all a bit tedious

As allready stated, it is very useful for attacking in sieges. Really minimizes your losses

I use it only against small rebel forces.

Only use it for rebels and when I have mass stack vs a small stack in a seige.
