    Default Questions about Racism.

So I saw a similar thread in on TWC and it got me thinking.

If you root for your own race in say a sporting event its not racist, but if you root against another group because of there race it is?

Say on reality TV, very few black/african american on those shows, Survivor ect.....
When I watch those shows I end up rooting for the minorities because they never seem to win.
So even though I'm not black(Pacific Islander) I root for them and against the white people who always win everything.

But in say the NBA where majority are black players I do root for some of the white players to do well.
Same with NFL I root for the white running backs because there are not many.

Maybe I like rooting for the underdog no matter there race or maybe I have racist tendencies?

So all people of a certain race are automatically inferior at certain events/sports to people of another race and should be grouped together and rooted for on that basis? I dunno about racism but I think you may be stereotyping.

Not the only reason I cheer/root for players or contestants or against, but it is a reason.

Stereotyping sounds closer to what my problem is.

You're merely rooting for the underdog; i'd only consider what you're doing racist if it was an act of malice which it clearly isn't. You shouldn't be so self conscious man

Never drop the N-bomb if you're white, that word is strictly for black people only.

Someone even based a cartoon character on him, I don't know if that's legal or if he got any royalties for it.

That I strongly disagree with. There can't be a double standard. If means "slave" it means "slave." If "" means "Man" it means "Man." In Latin Niger means black man. That's how it's being used. It's like the word "Jew" if I said "He is a Jew." I'm just acknowledging his faith. If I said "He's a stupid Jew," now it's derogative (although it may not be racist, I might be saying he's stupid and a Jew but that's a weakness of the English language.) If it's "Wassup ?" I'm just saying hello man. If It's "You better git on out of here." I'm clearly being derogative.

It's a word. Just like and and . Are they "rude"? Sure. Are they "evil"? Certainly not. They're neutral tools. It's all about their use.

For the record, Morgan Freeman point was that if you want to get rid of racism, stop promoting racial prides, or even distinguishing people.
'' I'm gonna stop calling you a white man ... and I'm gonna ask you to stop calling me a black man''.
Unfortunately I don't see it happening. The majority of people aren't smart as him.

The thing you have to understand about Morgan Freeman is that he is not black he just happens to have really dark skin. True blackness has to come from within.

"Blackness" doesn't exist except in people's prejudices.

    This.

The culture and tradations people subscribe to, distinguishs them in a far greater degree than race. It's just that homogeneous ethnic groups normally develop their own culture (and even then it's made up of a host of micro/sub-cultures), tradations and values which is then often attributed back to the entire ethnic group in question irregardless of which values and social norms the indivdual adopts; and that's just another reason stereo-typing is misguided.
