I need some help

So for a long time now ive been playing m2tw, rtw, and tatw with no problems and everything has always ran smooth. Now all of a sudden when i move a character or army they lag bad when they move and its slow and annoying. the battles dont lag its just the campaign map. i havnt done anything different to my laptop so if any1 has any ideas as to why this is happening they would be appreciated.

BTW i dont have any other programs running when i play and i have already tried a disc cleanup and defragment

To Bug (Reports) & Technical Help
Delete the medieval2.preference.cfg file it will reset all your game settings then select default settings in video options see if that helps.
Turn off features like campaign shadows etc and it might help.
