Greetings,
I didn't want to start a new thread, so I picked this one to ask a question and since this is titled "New Graphics Card?", I thought I'd give it a shot.
Alrighty, this is a little breakdown of what I have now:
Thermaltake ElementS Mid-Tower
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-920 2.66 GHz OC'd @ 3.33
Asus P6T Intel X58 Chipset SLI/CrossFireX Mainboard Triple-Channel DDR3/1600
580 Watts Power Supplies (SLI Ready Power Supply)
ATI Radeon HD 4870 PCI-E 16X 1GB DDR5 Video Card
3 GB RAM
With that stated, what is the best bang for your buck for a new graphics card that will fit nicely with what I have? I mean, right now I play on a 24" monitor @ 1900 x 1080, and everything that I play runs relatively smooth, like MTWII, ETW, NTW, Crysis, COD BO and NBA 2K11. However, I know with the new games that are coming out, like Shogun II, I was wondering what I can get to play flawlessly...or close to it, at least.
I am looking at a HD 5770 or HD 5870. I think that is just about my price range. I would also like to know if these cards would work with what I have. I will probably have to upgrade on some RAM, too.
Anyhow, I hope that made some sort of sense. Thank you in advance for any help, comments and advice.
Take care,
Testudo
What OS are you running? You know, with that mobo, you could pick up another 4870 for dirt cheap and x-fire them...if you researched the performance benchmark around the internet, I think you'd find that the difference between that setup and a 5770/5870 wouldn't be that much. I mean, an upgrade to one of those cards would be an improvement for sure, but but another 4870 is a cheap solution with almost the same result, and those extra $$s could go towards your RAM upgrade.![]()
Thanks for the speedy response. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. If I got another 4870, do you think that it would run Shogun II and newer games smoothly? I think that I will look into your suggestion. Is it hard to install another card? Oh, and would I have to pick up the same brand? Maybe a silly question, but when I got it it just said name brand ATI Radeon HD 4870, so I am not exactly sure.
Thanks again,
Testudo
Go for a 6870. It is very powerful for the price. That is, if I could only get mine to work properly.
