    Default Any Formation Mods for RTW1.5?

    Or will mods for 1.2 work with 1.5? I havn't seen very good formations by the AI yet. A lot of long line formations and scattered attacks still.

    G'day m8.

    Just try adjusting the units rank depth, in export_descr_unit txt. Less width and more depth equals thicker battle lines and more maneuverable units.
    i.e When the AI sends one of it's units on a mission to say flank you or counter one of your moves. There is a much greater chance it will reach it's destination and not be sucked into combat by clipping then engaging with a non intended target. Not to mention being able to move it's battle line more cohesively. Less stop start and repositioning crap.

    EDIT: I am not sure how your own unit stats will effect the formations.
    The above tweaks work well in WarMap and BI-WarMap II.

    Ahhum, Sir I am not a complete moron, :laughing: seriously though I already do that for many units along with making all peltasts start in non-skirmish mode. I have also been brave enough to change the unit spacing in some formations.

    I was thinking more along the lines of a total overhaul to the descr AI formations txt like Darths or Sinuhets mods. I have several versions saved in my patches folder. I could just try one of the 1.2 versions but I'm pretty sure it won't work properly.

    On a side note I'm really enjoying your map. I promote/recommend it all the time. I'm not sure I'll switch to Webbirds version. That would require some more work to convert. If I get around to playing BI again I'll certainly load up your map. I see your very busy around the RTW sites.

    I have started to find out the new features of the AI formations for RTW 1.5 after downloading patches 1.3 and 1.5 this weekend. And what I have seen on the battlefield with RTW 1.2 based formations and on the other hand the only 3 relatively small changes in the "descr_formations_ai.txt" file have showed me that it will be a nightmare to "optimise" the RTW 1.2 based AI formations for the 1.3/1.5 patches (the AI formations script files are the same in 1.3 and 1.5, the HPs formations are the same like in the RTW 1.2). They are some changes in hardcode for battle AI behaviour apparently and the non-CA formations only show these more clearly then the original CA AI formations.

    What I know, there dont exist (or are not released at least) any non-CA RTW 1.5 AI formations. And who will be able to solve the problems with them will be really excellent formation-modder. Frankly said I am not sure if I will be able to do this ever.

    In every case, it will be helpful for me in my trial to improve the AI formations for RTW 1.5 to collect in one place as much as possible information about the behaviour of the 1.2 based formations (the AI and also Human Players) installed in RTW 1.5. And it will be good if it will be for example in this your thread, if you dont have something against this.

    So I ask you and also anybody else to write here in more detailed way descriptions of the strange behaviour of units in battlefield for particular formations and factions, ideally relevant to the my formations mods, if anybody try to use them with RTW 1.5, but the info relevant to the ones of DV or anybody else designed primarily for the RTW 1.2 will be also helpful ....

    I'm about 70 turns into a highly modded Julii campaign on VH/VH.

    The Gauls and Greeks are the only ones I've been at War with so far. I'm using IceTorque's BB/WarWap for 1.5 I've used your formation mod for 1.2 on Huge unit settings and it was much better than vanilla for sure.

    So far I'm seeing mostly single line formations from the gauls but they do tend to attack all at once when they're not too scared. The greeks tend to come at me piecemeal.They don't hold formation very well. Both factions handle their missle units better than 1.2 but they don't respond as well to my missle units. They're better than 1.2 somewhat.

    Overall 1.5 plays better especially on the Campaign map. I don't think it would require as many changes as 1.2 even though it may be harder to accomplish.

    I'll try to keep you posted on anything else I notice. Let me know of any specific details you need to know.
