I'm a fairly new MP player

Hello

I am trying hard to develop my game i am four stars atm and are tying hard to be a better player. I ushally play against 6*+ players in 3 vs.3 games and are ushally getting my ass kicked and now after a mounth i'm starting to be tired of this ass kicking.

I have not camped a single time and realy like to go on the offensive. the problem is that many times i play and ar attacking great players flank with lets say one milita and three guards the outher player fall back. Then I have to attack again he fall back, and again he fall back and so on. it's utterly anoying cous during this time he are crushiung my outher flank. mainly becous of my bad micro and inability to have patience.
what are you guys doing when they start to fall back like that. do you always have cav there to try to charge them in the back when they are running or what do you do?

I whold also like to know what you guys use as army se ups and what your plan are when you play as france and GB cous i barley use those nations.
why I dont use france that much are becous i have to feld weak lights and are wondering how you guys get around that.

And one more thing. how the hack do you counter the turks mele trops. love to play with them but against them are a real pain.

Use the militia to screen for your cavalry while pushing up with the guards. Retreat the cavalry or go around the line if the enemy line squares. This way saves your cavalry and your guards while giving you 3 volleys at the enemy line or guard while he is squared. That should work.

next find yourself a couple of good friends to play with - who are on when you are - then and practice practice practice

People who keep falling back are the most annoying. What I did was after letting my opponent have 1st shots 3 times in a row was to stop attacking. It took about a half hour/hour till he attacked me. But once he attacked me it was over and I won.

that's more like just boasting about your wins and how '1337' you are

Really, best thing for you to do is to find better allies to play with as it seems the unreliability of your current ones may be the main reason you keep loosing. It is always a costy thing if you have to cancel an attack already in progress.

Something that may work for you for the moment would be to play some 1v1's so you can judge your opponent and he can judge you as well. This for me has been a great way to get some new friends to play with and against.

Also,if your new, use prussia,w/ this setup:
x1 General Staff
x5 Prussian Fusiliers
x4 Musketeers
x4 Foot Guards
x1 Landwehr
x4 Lancers

Also,if they send units on the flank and pull back, that's a common noob's tactic called kiting (not to be confused with reforming).What you wanna do against that is use militia to absorb the shots, then use cav to keep him in place.As for the units on the flank, actually turn some units to face them but move your main line up enough to cover THEIR flank.

Also,don't underestimate france.In 3v3's and 4v4's,prussia is better, but they dominate in 2v2's and 1v1's.You just gotta get up close and they pwn.GB is a balanced nation with great line infantry; just use them like prussia or most other nations.

If its 3 old guard pushing your flank,kite kite kite,what ever you do dont stand up to them attack there weaker flank.
Also if you getting kited yourself bring more cav try and pin his flank down then push your line up fast and close.
If you want to stop your own line been pined down when you see his cav run up close to his line pull your cav up close to your line because he will push them through his lines to pin your line down so be ready to counter charge and intercept his cav while this is happening pull your threatened line back.

my advice is a bit different... use the developer camera, use france and GB and PRU, and yes, get cav behind the enemy if possible to threaten them into squares making it impossible for them to run.

no good player will let you surround him or envelop his flank, you'll have to work for it. you have to have the skill and speed to impose your plan on him. yes people who retreat are frustrating, but it's an integral part of the game, and if you want to be good you have to learn to attack faster than they can run and to use cav to slow them down.

The trick about people who keep falling back is to chase the retreating infantry with cav which will make them form square; then immediately withdraw the cav (preferrably before he gets a shot off), all the while your own line can catch up.
It's kind of tricky and micro-intensive, and you can make lots of mistakes.
What you ultimately want to achieve is
a) the cav gets in a charge without him having formed square or
b) having your line fire at him while he is in square or reforming his line.

camp on a big hill with loads of arty surrounded by spikes. use austerlitz its a great map for this tactic or any map which has bottlenecks and are easy to defend. if u have to play on a flat map then put a wall of spikes right across the whole map to prevent been flanked. i dont like to call this tactic camping but fighting defensively. once u have shot them up enough and u feel brave enough then move forward to attack. i call this tactic counterattacking.
if that fails then kite them to hell.
if this works and u have a couple of victories then start making vids for youtube and say how great u are and disrespect other clans in these vids. also brag and boast on this forum about how long u havnt been defeated for and how generally great u are. i recommend starting a clan and naming it after some crackpot dictator (that will raise the profile of ur clan no end).
everyone will respect u for this and think ur great.
note: for this genius of a tactic to work u must never, i repeat never leave ur spawn.
ps... if ur opponent copies your tactic then dont forget to call them a camper noob.

All the posts so far are great advice, ( apart from maybe triphammer? )
but i guess the best way to improve is to play heaps.

If you lose a game, save the replay and watch it afterwards.
Think to yourself "what could I have done better to win this game?"
You will start to see where your problem areas are and you can work on them.

At least you attack and understand the concept of 'flanking' which is better than about 99% of players in ntw.

thanx guys. stars sometimes mean something though, i'm not obsessed about it but when i'm getting my butt kicked im getting it. It have turned out better lately though, thanx to your help and some better micro. In one 1 vs 1 match that was turning out werry good ended with a dropping game. It shorely is easy to kill heavy guard cav with frances most cheap lancers.

I had this starting army with france.

1 gen
2 Swiss line
2 Polish line
1 brave regement
2 old guard
1 millita
5 lights (90 men)
4 lancers
1 shooter cav

He positioned all three heavy guard cav on one flank so i positioned my there aswell, after the cav fight was over I barely lost 50 horses and he lost all. I crushed his flank, ate his gen and shortly there after he dropped, Is this a cheat or what is it? The first game that I fealt that i realy dominated and this happend. crazy luck of mine.

What starting army do you ushally take with france in 1 vs 1 battles?

I tried the prussian built
1 gen
4 lines
4 guards
1 milita
5 fussies
4 lancers.

and it was good, does anyone have anouther tip with them?

Loving the armys Add me on steam. Austria just takes a lot of loving care to get things going for them.

Just wondering, is there any decent compilation of tips, strategies and tactics for MP naval battles in general, or 1v1 action specifically? I've grown a bit tired of reading whole threads just to find one post which doesn't really address most of my questions.
