It sounds like there's a buzz-saw in my computer, something is doing some high pitched hum. It's a laptop, btw.

Agreed. Or at least pretty high.

If they are too high, even with fans at full blast, go with a cooling mat. Keep your laptop on a desk if possible, and elevate the back end a little bit, so as to provide a bit of circulation.

You can check the temps with HW monitor a freeware and you could also open the laptop and clean the dust etc to resolve heat issues.
