Medieval 2 Total War Gold doesn't run

When I first got the total war battle pack and my desk top in June, I had absolutely no problems running it, and continued to not have issues and even got the stainless steel mod (6.0) and had no trouble. Afterwards I stopped playing the game for quite a long time (If I had to guess, I'd say sometime in late July or mid August).

However I never took the disk out of the drive because every game I got afterwards was purchased and downloaded online (and got a few torrents for some old games that they don't sell anymore), which when compounded with my absent-mindedness and laziness meant that the disc just sat there for a couple of months.

Now about a week ago I wanted to play Medieval 2 Total War again after reading some AARs, I started up the launcher and clicked the play button and moused over to stainless steel, but when I clicked on that my computer put up the loading sign on the cursor for ten to twenty seconds and then stopped loading, and no the game didn't so much as start up, no new windows started up, it just did nothing besides giving some visual and audio clues that it was loading before abruptly stopping the loading process.

So I tried again, but looked at the processes screen on the task manager closely, and noticed that my computer did indeed start the process, but lo and behold it would unfailingly kill the process half a minute after it would start without giving me so much as an error message.

So I took out the disc and put it back in and again, my computer would whir a bit, the process screen would indicate that it started the process but again it would kill the process. So I tried reinstalling it (though for some reason when I reinstalled it, I got the normal Medieval 2 total war installation wizard instead of the Medieval 2 Total war Gold one so Kingdoms didn't get reinstalled) but that didn't work.

So here I am asking for help.

My computer is an HP model p6310y desktop with an AMD Athlon II X4 630 Processor with 2.80 GHz. I have a 6 GB ram card with 5.75 GB being usable. I have a 64 bit operating system and use Windows 7 Home Premium edition. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9100 Video card. I have about 596 GB of unused space out of 920 GB total space on my Hard drive so space is not an issue for me.

So what is the problem and how should I fix it?

Have you checked your security settings to see if they got reset for some reason?

Hi Czin!

Having just had to do a reinstall myself, I can say that does sound a bit funny. Irishron made a good call...when you were installing did the security message come up? Mine did when I installed it, and it installed Kingdoms and such with no problem. Also, did you try running the game as administrator? I know I've had installation problems and even games not running right with vista all because I didn't run it as admin. I'm not too familar with Win7 but I would check what irishron said.

Only other thing I can think of is your disc is shot, but I wouldn't think leaving it in there would damage it...let us know of your progress.

No, I don't think either of my security programs are taking issue with the game. I didn't get any message from either Windows Firewall or from Webroot. Also of note is that Rome Total War and Barbarian Invasions (And Amazon Total War if that bit of info is of any help) as well as Civilization IV the complete edition (I listed this because this is another game that uses a disc, though outside of M2TW and the games I listed, all of them are discless) work fine.

I'm checking on which programs my windows firewall is allowing through now though.

Alright, I set Windows firewall to allow Kingdoms, Medieval 2 total war, and the Launcher.exe through, but I still am getting nothing.

Edit: I tried putting Webroot anti-virus on gamer mode, it isn't working either.

Edit: Did a complete uninstall of everything, I'm going to reinstall now.

I'll add to that...hope you have some luck with it. As I was saying before, I had to do the same thing to stop my game from CTD. Hope your install is smooth.

I am most displeased to report that my attempt at reinstallation was a total failure, now my computer is closing the process down several times faster than it was before. The Medieval 2.exe will now only run for 3-5 seconds before my computer kills it. In addition, I don't seem to have the Kingdoms.exe anymore.

I'm going to try more completely deleting medieval II total war from my system now before reinstalling it again.

Whenyou uninstall t starting with the Kingdoms campaigns, delete all Sega folders, run a registry cleaner, reboot, then try reinstalling.

Does this mean I'll have to get rid of universe at war too? Though I haven't played that game in a very long time...

Have anything installed SecuRom may flag? www.securom.com is probably your best bet right now.

Can securom detect things from outside the game's file? Because I do have some torrents (games like space hulk [1993] and the elder scrolls Arena [1994 that I would have no chance in hell of finding in a store these days).

Odds are it can. It can find things like Limewire, uTorrent, EA's games made with the same Securom version, Alcohol 120, and what else I don't know. Dump it in their laps. If the code is now open source or no longer marketed, Securom should come up with a copy of this game that works.

Ya know, I didn't think of that. Every now and again when I try to play when I put my disc in that Securom message comes up telling me to "insert the original disc" or some nonsense and I actually have to eject the disc and put it back in.

I really hope you figure this out.
