    Default patches to 64bit systems

    Hello

i recently dug out my original RTW to install for old time's sake: the 3cd version from 94(?) on my win7 64bit system.
I can update it to ver 1.2, but after that all of the patches do not give me the option to install in
the x86 folder, so of course they do not work. Similarly, BI (the original) does not give me the option of redirecting the installation, they default to c:progs
I am not clever enough to install to a partition
Is there any way of playing these games fully patched?

    many thanks

I just installed my game to C:/The Creative Assembly/Rome - Total War and didn't have any problems ... then again, I did start with 1.3, so I only had to do the 1.6 Patch since I also installed BI.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

    Try C:\Games.
    If not, C:\Program Files.
If not C:|Program Files 9x86) of which is where mine is with Win 7 64bit Professional, UAC disabled and it's the original 3cd set with original BI.

First of all welcome to the forum.

As others have posted it's best to avoid the 'c:\program files (x86)' folder if you can as it's "protected" by Windows Vista and 7. Personally, I've made my own program files folder and all my games are installed there - including Steam itself (so all Steam games are there).

Some of the RTW patches don't allow a path to be selected and use the folder that RTW was first installed to. So, if you did install it to 'c:\program files (x86)' then the patches should simply be installed there. The only problem that I can see is that if the RTW install has been moved from there - but that's probably a Windows Registry thing.

The other thing that can happen is that the original three CD-ROM was published by Activision so that name is usually part of the default install path while patches may be looking for 'The Creative Assembly' as that is the new publisher.

Listen, thanks one and all for the prompt replies. I was so keen to play RSII that in the end i bought rtw from steam in the sale. This now means that i have bought:

    RTW the original,
    Barbarian invasion,
    Alexander,
Rome anthology when i misplaced my disks ,
..and now RTW gold on steam.

reminds me of buying the floyd on vinyl, tape and then cd. And i it's been worth every penny.

Currently getting stuck in to the seleucids in RSII, playing as Alexander's only worthy successor, Ptolemy, and I am loving it.
Kudos to all involved with RSII, I have fallen in love with this game all over again.
    Many thanks

Yes, enjoy RSII and try out some of the other mods out as well - despite it's age there are still teams working on various mods.
