I've looked up this problem online and have found conflicting answers, so I guess I'll just pose my problem here.
I used to play RTW (and Medieval II for that matter) just fine on my old XP machine. Medium settings most of the time I think. But then that one died and I got a Windows 7. I hadn't played in awhile (college) but I wanted to get back into it (Civilization IV as well actually), so I installed everything and dled my old favorite mods that I used to play all the time and I thought I was all set. Then I began to get random minimizing and maximizing and bsods while playing (this occurred the first time with a few mods for Civ IV, generally the larger, more comprehensive, script intensive ones). It also occurred with RTW, again with the more script intensive, comprehensive mods (EB being the one most prone to them). These would always occur on the campaign map, and never during a battle. It occurred slightly (but not much) more often after a battle. The same occurred with similar frequency while playing another scripted mod, Rise of Persia, and far less frequently on a mod that doesn't use scripts, Chivalry Total War.
I looked up this problem online and found a possible solution that involved altering the computer's power settings from "balanced" to "high performance" and this did indeed make the problem less frequent, but did not eliminate it from being a nuisance. I've seen some solutions that have to do with memory allocation, but to be honest I haven't completely understood, as I'm not that amazing with computers (but I can work on that).
Has anybody encountered this problem before and found a solution? Any help would be appreciated (and +rep worthy indeed).
EDIT: These bsods do not occur with other games like Sins of a Solar Empire (which is pretty intense on the system), or Command & Conquer.
