    Default Knights of Santiago

I'm trying to get the KoS guild for Portugal, and want to make sure I'm doing it right. I read somewhere that you need a settlement bordering the Moors, so I decided to leave them Cordoba in a new campaign I started. I'm just curious if I need the bordering settlement to be a city or castle. Or maybe it can be both? As far as cavalry goes, the KoS is the best Portugal or Spain has. It's comparable to French cavalry, which is said to be the best in the west.

Although since it's a guild troop, that kind of limits what I can do with it. Still, I don't plan to have a large empire anyway.

Portugese knights and Conquistadors are good, but they both have things that the other has. Like powerful charge or being better at something else. The KoS seem to combine these two into a nice heavy cavalry unit that I can at least defend my main Empire with. Even if I don't use it to fight across the map very often.

You don't need a Bordering settlement, as far as I know. Recruit lots of Knights and get crusades called on Moorish cities, complete them.

If I recall, you're more likely to get the guild in a region if it has a reasonable amount of Muslims in it or in a neighboring region.

send a high chilvary or a crusading-like-traits general in a settlement for about 10 turns, soon enough the guild will be offered,
btw did you check that the building you want to have the guild in has the requirements-city, fortress etc.

I didn't actually check that. I probably should have.

The only requirements to get any chivalrous guild are to have a large enough settlement and kill lots and lots and LOTS of Muslims.
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)

For any knightly order guild type you get:-
    • +25 points for joining a crusade.
    • +10 points for recruiting knights from it.
    • Apart from that only the hopitallers & Teutons get a bonus of +10 points if they share a border with a region that has islam or pagan religion respectively(have to be more than 50% and is one of the reason i don't capture stettin early in my HRE campaign).
    • We also get a +10 points if a catholic nation declares war on a islamic factions(Hospitaller guild only).
    • A chivalrous general having chivalry 5+ also gives a bonus of +5 points every turn in it's settlement.

    100 points = minor guild
    100 points = major guild
    500 points = HQ guild

Thats all u need to know about getting a Knightly order guild.
