Hmmm, I can't say for definite what's gone wrong here.

What I would suggest you try:

    1) Make sure that the target line in the ExRM shortcut properties is as below:

    "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:ExRM_3.5

    2) Run the campaign_map_reset batch file located in the ExRM folder. This will delete all the map files ready for them to be regenerated upon beginning a campaign.

I'm not that great at bug hunting to be honest with you. If those don't work I'd try a complete re-installation of RTW, then 1.3, then 1.5, then BI, then BI 1.6 and then install ExRM. What you should bear in mind is that some copies of BI downgrade the RTW engine, so you may want to check your RTW version number before advancing further.

The shortcut (on desktop) has that line.

There's no exrm file in the folder.

I dunno, i'm stumped. However, there's no 'creative assembly' mine goes p files, activision, rome total war

Where would I find the RTW version number?

You don't need 1.3, though I don't think thats the problem.

Did you get the install path right? Onetime I installed the mod into the wrong folder and not suprisingly, I couldn't get it to run.

Don't you have to copy the data folder and rename one of the folders EXRM? Then install the mod?

If so, this could be it. Wait for confirmation from others on this because I'm not sure this is correct.

It could also be that you need to look for The Creative Assembly folder in your program files for the game instead of Activision.
In my case, I have 'Program Files' and 'Program Files (x86). When I installed Vanilla, my pc put it in Program Files (x86). Didn't take me long to figure it out, but I was stumped for a bit. I was looking for it in Program files.
You can then create an Activision file and copy the folders in there if you want. Its want I did for some mods.

Some Mods have Activision in the Install path; but when you install the game, it installs the game into a folder named 'The Creative Assembly'.
Its a problem if you don't catch it.

    This what I followed.

    • Install RTW
    • Install BI
    • Make sure that RTW is patched to v1.5 and BI is patched to v1.6
    • Delete the old ExRM folder
    • Do not install any earlier version of Extended Realism
    • Run ExRM v3.5.3b setup.exe
    • Direct the install into your main Rome - Total War folder, or wherever the RomeTW.exe and the RomeTW-BI.exe files are located

It could also be that you need to look for The Creative Assembly folder in your program files for the game instead of Activision.

There wasn't a CA folder I checked. Ho hum, yet another install awaits, that's about my 5th since my HD crash, with this and ther attempted mods...

Try changing the shortcut target path to:

    "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -nm -show_err -mod:ExRM_3.5

Different versions of RTW point to different folders, it can be a bit of a pain.

You can find the version number in the Options menu when you open up Rome Total War.

I keep a spare clean install around at all times. Then you can just copy and paste it over a damaged installation. I have five total ATM.

What version of Windows are you running?

    Ok, here goes...

Ok, that fixed it, thanks to all who offered help and advice.

Now I'm gonna have a fiddle around with campaign and battle difficulty settings.

Quick question, could i have a competely different install of this game, say with a Metro naval mod, if I had another clean install and different directory etc?

    Cool. Good luck.

Vista? If that didn't work, try the Vista installation instructions here:

Yep. You could have as many installations of this game as you have RTW-BI folders.
