    Default Increasing artillary/cannons numbers?

I remember reading somewhere that you can change the number rof artillary pieces deployed per unit card. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to change it to get more artillary pieces. I find playing with huge unit sizes it limits the effectiveness of cannons and siege weapons because there are just so many more units (compared to medium).

    Thanks

In the EDU (export_desc_unit.txt), in SOLDIER entries

    For example;

    Change this
    Code:
    soldier NE_Bombard_Crew, 24, 3, 0.8, 0.30
    to this
    Code:
    soldier NE_Bombard_Crew, 24, 4, 0.8, 0.30
So original bombard will have 3 pieces edited one four. Short and Simple.

More pieces means, more men required and more ammo needed as it will run out much more sooner.
And the max acceptable value is 6 atleast in Trebuchet.

    so:-
    Code:
    soldier NE_Trebuchet_Crew, 16, 2, 1
    stat_sec 55, 3, trebuchet, 285, 30, siege_missile, artillery_mechanical, blunt, none, 25, 1
^Where no. of soldiers, no. of pieces, Ammo.

Ammo doesn't really bother me because they take so long to run out anyway :p, but thanks both of you. I just love watching the cannons fire ^^, (yes i own NTW )

But where exactly is the EDU? I checked both the mods subfolder and normal MTW2 folder but windows search didn't turn up anything :/

nope hold on just found it . I was looking for a file called export_desc_unit.txt and not export_descr_unit.txt

Just another quick question, I"m looking at the file and there are ME Trebuchet, NETrebuchet and EE Serpentine and NE Serpentine. What are the differences between them?

    Honest mistake by IA.

These are different models used by different factions. NE-North european, ME-middle eastern etc. Check the faction ownership at the bottom of the entry and you will get the idea.
So if you increase the ammo for say ME type it will only increase for middle eastern factions.

Oh well that is very interesting :o. I thought it would be a general unit across the whole world, but thanks for the info

No it's not like that one can notice the difference in the models that is the crew NE crew is different from the ME crew or soldiers so that is why they did it otherwise the SS team could've deleted all those extra or repetitive engines.

Good to see your modding working.
Is there an ee_serpentine?? Gonna find it out and raise its cost. I raised cost for all artillery so ee_ artillleries are not to be left un-modded. You wonder why I raised their cost? It was very boring and annoying to see half-stack forces filled completely with artilleries.

Eastern European artillery was merged with NE artillery to save space in the EDU.

It actually makes a lot of sense to have more siege engines per unit card, as it would cut down the time waiting for the ammo to run out and the assault to begin. Also, it would look more epic.

Unfortunately it would also make the siege engines much more powerful in an open field battle.. and I find them really annoying in that situation already, since it means less room for maneuvers and more focus on rushing ahead before too many big rocks come down.

All seige weapons are disappointingly inaccurate though . I remember the AI had 3 catapults, 1 trebuchet and a bombard and out of the 10 or so volleys from the seige equipment 2 hit :/. Even basalisks for their huge cost, don't hit very often (however with explosives) and Serpentines were the only cannons that had decent accuracy knocking out half the opponents cannons after 5mins of battle (although some might've been friendly fire )

Yes but your army is a big target.

Also, if they hit your general he is done for. So you can't risk taking your time when under artillery fire. Which means battles become a random rush.

You can increase the accuracy of the siege engines from descr_projectiles.txt, i recently told someone here.

Giving them experience also increases their accuracy.
