    Default Good PSU?

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...y=REVIEWS#tabs

Looks like a pretty good PSU upgrade, currently I have a 480w. Is this a reliable brand? Will it be enough for my specs if I upgrade my 4670 to a GTX 460? (Specs at bottom of post) Even if I were to OC?

    ATI 4670
    2GB Mushkin Enhanced RAM ddr2
    Asus m3a76-cm Micro
    AMD Athlon x4 Quad
    Seagate HD

Yep, on D-Day in Iraq, we launched over 500,000 pikemen to capture the flag which Rome was holding. Didn't go so well for us but those Spartans didn't win by much with there muskets.

    No.

Diablotek, as the name suggests, are evil.

Seriously though, it's not a good power supply.

You should try and go with a more known or reliable gamers PSU.

    Corsair
    OCZ
    Antec

I highly recommend Corsair as the best in my opinion, but Antec and OCZ as Albert said are great too. I also hear Seasonic is quite good, some even say the best, but I have no personal experience with it.

Seasonic are OK later models have improved over time.

I don't think anyone can offer any more quality but Corsair my work station uses them and the servers.

None of them except one has crashed due to a bad Motherboard easily replaced with the warranty.

OP you should stick to our tips never buy something unless its a gaming PSU as they perform better than regular power supplies and have more voltage protection and can save you under extreme advantages.

    Stick with the 3 above.

    Friendly advice.

No such thing. In most cases, power supplies labeled with tags like "gaming" or "extreme" are crappy generic power supplies. Now, if you mean power supplies made by gaming enthusiast companies, fair enough, but if something has "gamer" tacked onto the product name, it's usually a cheap marketing gimmick.

AFAIK, the only PSU Corsair has helped designed themselves is the AX 1200w. Every other product is built and/or designed by either Channel Well Technology or Seasonic. Mostly Channel Well Tech, but some notable Seasonic PSUs used by Corsair is the HX 650w and the "lower end" Corsair AX Professional power supplies (750w/850w).

OCZ ranges from terrible to very good, depending on the platform and series of PSUs you buy. Typically, I'd stay away from the ModxStream, GamexStream and StealthxStream I PSUs. They are old and inferior to more modern power supply series.

The OCZ StealthxStream II series are good for the price and the OCZ Z Series are worth a buy if you can find them on sale.

Antec probably have the best PSUs in the lower end area as their power supplies are either designed by Seasonic or designed in co-operation with Delta, who specialise in building server level power supplies. I'd stay away from the Basiq line, but the EarthWatts, Neo Eco and TruePower New line of PSUs are not only affordable, but also good quality.

Going back to Corsair, I'm mixed. As a whole, Corsair have very good power supplies and usually for a great price, but stay away from their CX range. It's a joke. The Corsair CX power supplies are overrated.

Not overrated as in "he's overrated, he's not great", but overrated as in the CX 430w power supply is something closer to a 350w power supply and the CX 500/600 are probably 400w/500w power supplies. They've been rated to go at 430w/500w/600w at only 30c loads. Most quality power supplies are rated to go at their specified wattage at 40-50c. It's artificially meeting specifications.

Pick out a nice Seasonic, Antec, Corsair (NOT CX) or XFX Power Supply. All XFX power supplies are Seasonic based.

XFX is a pretty good brand which hasn't been mentioned--their banned ad is another reason to buy it

EDIT: In the time it took me to write this mrcrusty mentioned XFX.

Later models have improved over time.

Everyone has there downs and ups even the best company's who make these power supplies.

The good thing with these is the company provides a very nice warranty so even if it does cost you a fortune and does not work or does not provide the quality you expected in most cases they will replace it for you or send a an Exact replacement for the faulty unit.

Yes i meant people who are wanting to provide gamers with great power supplies not the ones who put a bit of fancy riting on saying its a gaming PSU and does everything you want when in fact it does not its just a market CON.

Anyway the latter of what im saying is stick with known company's who provide a good warranty have a decent customer service and have reliable sources within the company itself nothing beats a company who are gamers there selves and make these Power Supplies for not just the public but for themselves also.

    Thank you.

I might stay away from XFX due to their warranty fulfillment, which can be mixed. And they typically downgrade before they upgrade when they dont have your warranty item in stock.

Antec and Corasir are customer-centric, and Corsair will always upgrade you. For that matter, so will OCZ, but Im not thrilled with them anymore. I think I have told that story before. Took 3 months for me to get a new flash drive from them, but they did upgrade me to 32gb, up from 16gb.

Upon complaining on another tech site, a few older members who worked for OCZ back in the day, gave me a company history. They were caught laser etching and rebadging Samsung ram to different speeds, and other nefarious crap. They took a real nosedive and were sold at least once. Might be back on the way up, though.
