I am trying to 'speed boost' constantinople into a huge city. Whenever it gets close to reaching 30k an earthquake occurs and wipes out 15k of the populace. This has happened twice so far... is it scripted to prevent it from becoming a huge city?

I think that's a coincidence. There's no script that prevents Constantinople of becoming huge city.
okay it just seems... coincidental![]()
To build huge walls you need a population of 40k? I almost managed it using alexios... he is hopelessly corrupt but grants vital health bonuses, the pop hit 39k and then he died
Now I am losing 3% of the population every turn and it all seems hopeless. I have low taxes and all the public health structures... perhaps the 'huge walls' trigger should be lowered to 35k? 40k is very hard to reach.
On another note the siege of constantinople was pretty epic... 4600 crusaders fighting my emperors guard, perekyphoria and varangian mercenaries. They were crushed after a 20 minute battle in the city centre. I have the increased unit number and blood mod so things got pretty messy![]()
It is very hard to get to huge city, but I think that was the team's intention. Have you conquered Varna? Or do the Kypchaks have it? If so, get a trade agreement with them. According to my experiences, trading with neighbouring provinces give you some population growth. So do buildings for public order.

Yes I have trade rights with the kypchaps and I took Varna personally, at 39k I was getting a 0.5-1% growth BUT then Alexios dies and it turns to -3% despite low taxes and all the public health structures. It seems unnecessarily difficult in my opinion
