Solved! Crash when playing the Britons

for those of you who haven't seen my post in the technical help thread, here is the answer I gave there:
Please read my ENTIRE POST! other wise you might end up breaking the game

first: do you have vanilla Rome patched to 1.5?
second: do you have the Darth mod 8.0 + patch 8.1?
third: if you are using vista then you might have to turn off UAC (user account control) and re-install


The crash is due to having more than 3-4 Chariot units in an army, and causes some of them to be deployed outside of the borders

>>>you have to go into the descr_formations_ai.txt (found in the "data" folder) MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF THIS FILE JUST IN CASE YOU MESS UP AND HAVE TO START OVER!!
>>>hit ctrl+f type in "britons" without the "" and delete the name Briton from all the formation entries. after "supported factions"
Hope this helps!

Note: you won't get any fancy formations when fighting the Britons if you edit this file, you will just get a generic formation, but at least you won't have the crash!

Note2: before you try this fix do a custom battle with a british army that contains 4-5 chariot units and is assaulting a walled city) if you experience the same crash as in a field battle then also delete "britons" from the supported factions under "wall assault" *barbarian culture* other wise you don't have to mess with it

EDIT: I downloaded the extra formations found in the link Darth provided below and still had a crash, so install the new formations and see if it still crashes, if it does then edit the files as described above

If you need any more help editing the file just post in this thread and tell me.

The new extra formations were supposed to fix the problem (this is why I recommend to install them). Can you try them and see if they fix it as well? Thank you for your useful input in here too.

well I downloaded the new formations and got a similar bug...
before I installed the formation files, the battle would crash a few seconds after loading
after installing it does not crash, but my general is deployed out side of the deployment area, and the camera goes all wacky (goes under the ground)

I ended up going back through and changing the file again as explained above and that fixed the problem

EDIT: Fresh reinstall didn't fix it so I guess I just won't have any fancy formations when fighting the Brits

Ok thanks Darth, I'll download the new formations and see if that fixes the problem. I downloaded this mod about a year and a half ago, seemed to me at that time that the "New Formations" were just an add on to 8.0+8.1 and were optional. I didn't know that they contained bug-fixes
