    Default Any tips on corruption?

    Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of an awesome campaign as Aragon, but I'm starting to have some serious corruption problems! None of my new cities are making any money due to corruption! I've tried all sorts of things to make it go away, but nothing seems to be working!

Building law structures is supposed to help, yes? High chivalry generals? Proximity to capital?

For example, I captured Marrakesh maybe 30 or so turns ago. It's a well developed city with almost 20,000 people in it. But it's got almost 2k per turn of corruption! So I build city hall, max militia center, and put my 9-chivalry prince inside. Corruption does go down... but only to 1.5k. So I have this huge city only bringing in 600 florins a turn! That's absurd! And my latest captures along the northern coast of Africa are bringing in less than 300 florins a turn!

Are there any other tips I could use to help manage corruption in my cities? Thanks!
    That's Numberwang!

    Hmmm...

    1. Play around with moving your capital til you get the best fit.

    2. The Knights of Santiago headquarters gives a global law bonus, that should help.

Apart from the two already mentioned ones that are confirmed (moving capital, law-buildings), you could also change a few numbers in the game files to reduce corruption if it's really annoying the crap out of you.

Oh, and governors with +law traits also work.

I heard that inns and such make governs corrupt too. Is that true?

In SS you have to have a coaching house or pleasure palace in the settlement for there to be a chance of getting the drink trait. Anything below that (i.e. brothel, inn & tavern) wont affect the drink trait unless they are the governor when the building is finished (and then it's a 4% chance).

Haha funny you should mention this. My entire royal family for like 3 generations now all have the "abhors drink" trait. Perhaps I *do* need some more inns in the kingdom!

And yes the corruption is a problem in the Muslim territories I've conquered. My latest European conquests are paying just fine, but Marrakesh for example still has *over 2k* corruption even WITH the prince there!

Actually I'm gonna ask another question, even if it's a bit off topic: So I was just killing rebel armies, and one of the battles triggered a man-of-the-hour event. BAM a fresh 20 year old 4-chivalry 9-loyalty general. Not bad, eh? He's got the "Militarily minded" trait... but with 4 base chivalry I'm tempted to keep him as a governor.

My generals always seem to gain dread stars in combat, even if I release troops and occupy towns. How should I put this new family member to use? When a general spawns with that much chivalry, how do you keep those chivalry stars over a bloody campaign?

Chivalry is low taxes when building construction is completed, release troops, occupy cities. A few traits and ancillaries also affect it but those are difficult to control the acquisition of though you can trade the ancillaries.

Just keep in mind that military minded generals usually learn military traits more quickly while admin minded learn bureaucracy better but the difference is only 25% which depending on the trait is alot or not much difference.

Corrupt generals are triggered by having too much money (IIRC 10k) and being in a town (I think changes improved if taxrate was very high), this decreases all income and law, resulting in some game-term corruption as well.

Corruption always seems higher in Muslim country's, seems to be a combination of religious unrest and distance. I normally destroy everything in the city then give it to an ally.. at least then the Moors/fatimids have to reconquer it and rebuild it.
