    Default Capture Card/Gameplay Recording questions

Hey Everyone, some of you may know I record and post gameplays to the internet, as thousands do.

Well, I use fraps, and most of you know fraps is an FPS whore. So, I was wondering if 1. I should give up on screen recording programs and head straight for a HD Capture Card that records PC Monitors, or keep looking a for a decent HD screen recording program.

    2. If I use a screen recording program, which is the easiest/most convenient one?

And if you think I should get a Capture card, should 3. Which do you recommend 4. Which ones actually record PC monitors, and 5. would a Haupage HD PVR work with a FLATRON W2242T?

(Thanks in advance, and please check out my channel, its in my signature. I would greatly appreciate it )

HD PVR will work with almost anything i have one but i rarely use the dam thing i would strongly say ditch fraps its horrible i would just splash a little cash on a capture card or purchase the HD PVR either one will do the job you just need to buy a few cheap leads and your away for the PVR.

There is a patch out where instead of 1080I Max Res you can now patch it and hack over the 1080P .

I never use it i record in smooth 720P .

I say HD PVR its a good piece of kit once you work out how to do everything with it.

Also it comes with De coding software you can change your file type and make it as you would like for instance AVI TO MP4 you just convert it with the software you get its easy as pie .

    Its endless..............

I've been puttering around with this idea for a while. I talked to a few people, and did some research about 8 months ago and for good enough quality to make it worth while, the pro-end stuff is pretty much needed (like the Matrox MXO2 LE...price it out and pick you jaw off the floor...$1200+). I took a look at the Haupage in a vid shop and it didn't have the DVI input I was looking for (the one I saw was only component I think...yuck...and to get the quality signal from my vid card I'd need a better input or the whole thing would be a waste).

Maybe things have changed, or is new stuff for cheaper...but at the time, I felt that the $300 models wouldn't cut it, and that I was better off with my current setup. But mate, if you find anything more on this, or get it and find its any good, plz let me know

I also read somewhere about having a second PC just for recording, and inputting the signal directly into the recording PC's motherboard (firewire?), but it got beyond my technical understanding and my wife put her foot down at that point LOL

What I am worried about with the HD PVR is if it supports my monitor, I heard somewhere it supports DVI Ports.

The ports on my Monitor is A-SUB (I Think) DVI and AC-IN. If it DOES support any of those ports, will it record in HD? I normally render out most of my vids (Except my really good ones) 'For Computer'. Even then, it makes a difference if your recording in HD. I hate videos recorded in Standard Definiton like the Dazzle.

Well, what I had in mind was running out the DVI port in my 5970 into this device in a second computer with that card, and I just couldn't find anything reasonable priced that would do this...all the inputs and documents I found indicated that the quality would not be what I'm looking for. For me, its 1080p or bust...the standard def stuff is a no go...so I chug away with FRAPS, turn myself inside out to get every 1 or 2 fps I can, but at least I know I can render in as high a quality as youtube can handle. I found dead end under $1000, but I hope you can do better mate cause this would be my holy grail

well, as you said, FRAPS is an fps whore. Even with a good system, everything on ultra with AA x4 or x8 in a monster size battle with smoke etc can bring your rig to its knees with that recording button on. So I'm always looking for ways to squeeze a few more frames so that the final product is as smooth as possible. I have a vid tech help page (click my sig) where there are a few written pieces on how to do this.

I can record smooth HD TV and HD PC 720P Gameplay Videos with my PVR you need HDMI to Vga and all the other leads to to do it honestly if you look it up its an easy method to record jeeses i think some people expect amazing when you just wont get it and it will look the same i cant tell My PVR TO FRAPS both have smooth frame rates but the PVR never stutters never jumps never goes A-WALL.

I cant say much more but to study the PVR google it and find out thats what i did .

Btw Petrov you UH wanna do some MP later on ? .

I'm for a few sessions and will talk with you over xfire or steam about the PVR .... i rather do it that way ............

Stops me gibbering on like an idiot.

Also if you look on my channel well my mates channel ATP most of them videos are with the PVR .......... even the Napoleon ones ..............

The only solution that i found to this is use of multiple GPU's so that the gameplay doesn't suffers while recording it.
