    Default Can't use RSII_setup.exe

I downloaded all the installation files onto a desktop folder I created.

But I'm not able to even begin the installation process!

When I double click on RSII_setup.exe, the computer tells me that "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

What on earth does that mean?

It could be something to do with your system being set up to not £show known file extensions" and then you've renamed the file (it's in the folder options). So, you may be tryting to run RSII_setup.exe.exe......

Tried running it as administrator. Ran into the same problem.

Tried re-naming it to "RSII_setup.exe.exe", same problem.

Anyone know why this problem exists?

When I downloaded the RSII_setup.exe file, the computer took away the .exe and I had to add the .exe to its name. Could that have something to do with it?

Yes. As I suggested have a look in the folder options - it's under the View Tab and is 'hide extensions for known file types'. Make sure that box is unchecked. If you have it checked then you can have a mixture of files with and without extensions.

I always change this to always show the file extensions.

"Hide extensions from known file type" is unchecked.

Clicking on RSII_setup.exe still gives me the "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" message.

    Any other potential solutions?

    @TheAntiochus and Naja

Just to be clear, you do have all 'six' files needed to install RSII right?

    RSII_setup.exe
    RS21.cab
    RS22.cab
    RS23.cab
    RS24.cab
    RS2.msi

Otherwise if you are using Windows Vista or 7 try turning User Account Control off in Control Panel>User Accounts>Change User Account Settings>Set it to off. Reboot then see if you can run installer again.

Make sure its RSII_setup.exe not RSII_setup.exe.exe (Right click file and click properties and see the file name is correct; delete extra .exe if its attached to the end of the filename) Right click on RSII_setup.exe and select>Run as administrator. Don't install RTW into Program Files or Program Files(x86) (Unless you turn UAC off for good)

Can't think of anything else at the moment. Hope it helps!
