    Default Crash

Game is fully supported by my computer as I have been playing it for years prior, on the same system, just re-installed and the game crashes now and then.

Here's the scene, campaign map, after 4 battles (I counted), at the end of the 4th, the game minimizes showing two thirds of the desktop blacked out, but showing the taskbar and some of the desktop (lower right hand corner and a different coloured taskbar). Shortly after the game maximises and I continue. This comes across as a warning kind of, as at the end of the next battle the game minimizes to the desktop same as before, but a message pops up with Windows 'searching for a problem' - after which you have to close the program.

After restarting the game the same happens after the 4th/5th battles. Now the only difference from this install to the last is my new moniter - but that shouldn't make a difference as I'm running on a low resolution.

    Windows 7 32-bit.

Help me out if you can. Cheers.

Possibly a game memory leak and you found it. If you are used to XP and just upgraded to Win7, you are finding a new world.

What are your computer specs as in cpu, ram, graphics card/chip and dedicated graphics memory? If you don't know post your dxdiag.

Definitely a new world. Here's the DxDiag. I've been playing the game for years though so this is a real suprise to me.

When you installed Win7, did you install the motherboard chipset drivers for Win 7?

It may also help to manually update directx 9.0c. Some say .Net 4 also helps.

I did install the drivers but I'm actually trying to remember if i've played Rome since I upgraded and I don't think I have. My mistake.

I have directx 11, how can I update it? I'll try .net4 now.

EDIT: Scrap that, I just tried to install the driver for the mobo and it's not letting my, saying the CD is not supported on Win 7, so I haven't updated them. I'll try getting them off the net but it's not looking likely.

Some boards are not supported by Win 7. Too old. One already had to reinstall XP, another Vista.

Shame, I've threw a few utility updates in and installed .net 4. We'll see how it goes. Thanks irishron.

Two choices, then. Roll back to an earlier Windows version or a new computer.

Alright, i'm not rolling back just for rome singleplayer so i'll slog on I guess.

Here's something new, after the first 'semi-crash' it went back to the campaign map and it's all wrecked graphically. Any new ideas?

If it was M2TW, Id say not all the graphics layers finished loading. In M2, it would be map_ground_types.tga in pathfinding mode. That says to me hardware wise without the chipset drivers, things are getting lost in memory when swapping. Windows is trying to do the drivers' job and losing.

It just looks like your graphics card is struggling for some reason.
