change to 800x600 resolution?

hi all. like many before me im trying to change to 800x600 resolution, and like many other i have failed.

i know about the whole preferences.cfg file, changed everything, but the problem ive come up with is that, even if you change the res in the .cfg file, it still goes to 1024.

even if i try to start it in compartibility mode i still fail. the screen changes to 640 res, but then the game starts and it goes back to 1024.

theres gotta be a way to do it!

You can try to change it in medieval2.preferences.cfg and set the file to read-only but no bets. AFAIK, when the game was realeased, 1024 x 768 was the bottom resolution.

no luck. has anyone ever managed it?

if so, plz post screenshot, hopefully comparing both resolutions
