Default Rules not the same for all factions ?

Hi, recently installed total war medieval to play the third age (awesome mod) - having no experience with this game i have a couple questions, when a city of mine was beseiged by gondor I sent an army to help, the game told me i could not attack an army that was beseiging a city. However when i sent my army to attach a gondor city they sent an army from another city and it attacked my army that was laying seige to the city ?

Do different factions have different "rules of engagement" ?

Also if anyone knows of any where to get game guides it would be helpful as the manual was missing when i bought the game (2nd hand) and i just seem to be always in the negative income and losing the majority of battles unless I have nearly double the army the enemy does.

For future reference, please ask questions pertaining to the mod in the actual forum of the mod (In this case, in the Third Age mod).

I'm not too familiar with the mod myself since I've only played it a couple times, but it's quite possible that only the AI factions can attack besieging armies. This is most likely to add difficulty to the game.

All faction have the same rules of engagement, did you try to attack an army that was standing on a tile close to the besieged city from within the city?
If so, then that army will most likely not be the one that is besieging the city.
Also if anyone knows of any where to get game guides
I am not aware of any game guides (frogeggbeast did some lovely ones for RTW), but questions regarding general play have been asked and answered here in this forum for a long time. Simply use the search function and you are most likely to come up with quite a number of threads.

You find some guis for Third Age here for example:
    Unit Guide
Best ways to kill trolls/barogs and so on...
Strategy Guide (for economic, building etc...)
"Secrets of Third Age" (Some basic hints)

Hmm, well the city that is being besieged is allowed to "sally" and attack the army that is besieging it. Any allied armies that are in range (1 square) are also allowed to participate in the battle. Perhaps that is what happened to you.
