    Default XXX "the Coward"

Playing as Rome and I now have three generals and two admirals that have gotten "the Coward" feature -- and one extra general who now has the name, but not the trait!

I'm not running away -- in fact, I'm attacking everything in sight!

Playing 2.1a. Anyone else having this?

    Bad luck, or something else?

There's nothing you can do about it right now. The patch reverted some of the ancillary traits as there were some bugs and inconsistencies on some of them. The coward trait happens regardless, even if you don't battle with a general/admiral. I've had quite a few generals come of age, sit in a city until they were 21-22, depart to a city to govern it, and on the way there he gained the coward trait. No battles, nothing. I submitted this to the beta test forums and DVK said he was working on it so just try to be patient.

You could always use the Give_trait_ ........... Brave cheat to counter this problem. I don't think it would be cheating since you are just balancing an in game problem.

Thanks for the information and the fix/cheat. I've never used a cheat before, but since it is balancing, I may just do that!

    so you do:

give_trait Decimus the Coward Brave 1

    ??

See, I can't even cheat well!

Its something like that yeah. There is a page somewhere on this forum with all the cheats on it. ill try and link the page.

    Here is the link: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ighlight=cheat

    How to use Type:
    Code:
    give_trait "Charactername" TraitInternalName Level
To find the internal name of a trait, go to Rome Total War\data and look in export_descr_character_traits.txt. The level max is dependent on the trait.

    For retinue it's:
    Code:
    give_ancillary "Charactername" ancillary
The ancillaries can be found in export_descr_ancillaries.txt.

However i cant remember if the cheat requires you to put an underscore between each part of the generals name such as *give_trait Decimus_the_Coward Brave 1*

i also remember something about certain cheats not working with Roman generals because they have multiple names. If i can find some more info for you ill post it.

Well you could do what I did and go to the export_descr_character_traits file and remove the epithet from coward. It'll keep the general from getting the nickname in-game even if he gets the trait.

I've had the same problem with the Coward trait. How would an example of adding a trait look like?
After some testing it finally worked, for example:
my general's name is Benji the Coward,
[1] you'll open up the console by pressing " ~ ", then if would be
[2] give_trait "Character name" Traitinternalname Level: for this character this means
[3] give_trait Benji Brave1 (so, you don't have to type the Coward as his char name, which puzzled me for a while)
    And you're done..

I've looked up the export_descr char file and saw this:

    Trigger battle4
    WhenToTest PostBattle
    Condition GeneralNumKillsInBattle = 0
    and PercentageEnemyKilled > 10
    Affects Coward1 1 Chance 25
-> so if your general has 0 kills u have a 25% chance it gets coward trait

    Trigger battle4a
    WhenToTest PostBattle
    Condition not WonBattle
    and GeneralNumKillsInBattle = 0
    and PercentageEnemyKilled < 10
    Affects Coward1 1 Chance 10

    Trigger battle7
    WhenToTest BattleGeneralRouted
    Affects Coward1 1 Chance 100
-> this one is pretty crappy i think, because AI generals route more easily since they throw themselves into the action, this should be adjusted imo.

    rigger Withdraw_Before_Battle_Good_Odds
    WhenToTest PreBattleWithdrawal
    Condition IsGeneral
    and I_WithdrawsBeforeBattle
    and BattleOdds > 3
    Affects Coward1 1 Chance 10
-> I sometimes attack and then withdraw when i'm besieged to look up the enemy army's composition. Would such a move trigger this trait?

Yea, General's should only get the Coward trait if they are routed and flee the battlefield IMO.

DVK: Could this be the cause of so many characters turning "into cowards?" Can you adjust this?
I assume chance means how many chances out of 100 -- so I'm going to change all of these to 1 and see what happens.
I'm not an expert like you guys though......

Ah I was wondering if this was a bug or what not...seeing as how ships basically almost never are allowed to treat after getting attacked...And then of course sending a general who wins the battle and somehow gets the trait...

I think this only happens on auto resolve battle. I tested it and got the coward trait right after auto resolve. I dont always get it though. But I have quiet a lot of cowards lol.

*Quick, change your avatar. You might get mistaken for cocroach the Great, and that's not a good thing*

on-topic: This seems to happen when:
    1. Your general flees in actual (a played) battle. Obvious.
    2. A loss in auto-resolve

I auto resolved one now antiochus III is a coward, never mind the fact he conquered egypt and perganom. His 2 gold chevrons show he didnt exactly shy away from the fight. I cant get teh add trait cheat to work, i hate the cowar epithet.

    @Chris10 you're lucky.

It's not just from auto-resolving. It's totally random with any battle. Even if its a heroic victory with your FM or general personally slaughtering 400 enemies you might find yourself with "the Coward" after the fight.

Not to be annoying but any quick fixes we can do while waiting for the patch? This is a pretty crappy bug especially for us guys that enjoy the RPG-like side of the game with our FM's,gen's, etc. I couldn't get the trait "cheat" to work either.
