    Default installation problemb

    ok so i installed the mod and the 4.2 patch ontop of eachother and then i ran the kgcm_patch_4.2.exe
    which took me through the installation process,once i completed that i searched the medieval 2 total war folder(NOT THE MODS FOLDER) for it but all i could find about the mod was the kingdoms_grand_campaign_mo.rar(the winzip/'winrar file, so how do i start the game

    note- i also found the medieval2.kingdoms_grand_campagin_mod.cfg in a microsoft which was a microsoft office outlook configuration file, i opened it with wordpad and it contained all stuff like the starting playable factions......

    Did you follow these procedures and followed the instructions carefully?

    KGCM v4.2 install instructions

    Note that you have to install v3.0 before installing the v4.2 upgrade. I assume that this is what you are referring to as the 'mod'.

    If you have successfully installed the mod, it should place a shortcut on your desktop. Just double-click on the KGCM icon and it should launch.

    The file to launch KGCM is named "medieval2_kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod.bat" and should be in this folder " C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\". This is assuming you have Vista or Win 7 and used the default install locations.

    The install process should have placed a shortcut on your desktop. If it did not then you can create one by finding the above mentioned bat file and dragging it to your desktop and select 'create a shortcut here'. Then just double-click on the icon and it should launch. You can also double-click on the file itself or select 'Run' from the start menu and then browse to the file location.

    I do not know what went wrong but we can try a fix. In the C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\ folder create a new file using your text editor. Put these lines of code in this file:

    Code:
    cd ..\..
    kingdoms.exe @mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\medieval2.kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod.cfg
    Save this file with the name "medieval2_kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod.bat" into this folder and then follow my instructions in my previous post.

    Notepad will work fine, just any text editor that allows you to create a text file. After you add the code just select 'Save as' and place it in the above mentioned folder with the name provided in my previous post.

    @troy7,

    Did you first patch Kingdoms to v1.05 before you installed KGCM?

    Check your C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod\medieval2.kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod.cfg and see if the first section of code looks like this:
    Code:
    [io]
    file_first = true
    disable_file_cache = true

    [features]
    editor = true
    mod = mods/kingdoms_grand_campaign_mod

    No, the version of Kingdoms can be found under options from the main menu. If you cannot run Kingdoms, uninstall KGCM and see if Kingdoms will run. There are several versions of the patch and you must match the patch with the version of Kingdoms you are running (i.e. Gold, non-Gold English, etc.). Also see my last post, I edited it, but Kingdoms must be patched to v1.05.

    @troy7,

    Add the io section to your cfg file and that will help, but you still need to patch Kingdoms to v1.05.

    @troy7,

    Are you still running XP? Is so then you will have to change the file attribute on your cfg file. It has probably been set to 'read only'. Right-click on your cfg file and it should bring up a menu. Left click on 'Properties'. This will bring up a window. At the bottom is a section for file attributes. If the read-only box is checked, un-check it and then select 'Apply'. This should allow you to edit your file.
