    Default Dark Elves in TATW??

First off!, no flaiming whats so ever! i don't want to turn into a bash thread about the suggestion & discussion of adding Dark elves. But now you've read that, please read below for what i have to say.

Ok I know from a fantasy standpoint Dark Elves are the darker (evil?) version of a high elf or wood elf, And far as i see it an Elf is an Elf, but anyway. From a visual standpoint they're in Age of wonders, dunno if anyone has played that game. In Age of wonders they mostly live underground, And come to think of it, im sure i saw someone say that tolkien made a very very few references to dark elves in middle earth, i don't know if anyone can shed some light on that regaurding the lore of dark elves in middle earth. Im no a lore expert here on middle earth so please post any info you know about dark elves in middle earth.

So do you think, there perhaps should be atleast one Dark elf unit in the mod? maby one AOR Dark elf unit, some kind of low-medium tier basic archer for the evil factions. As in a way this does gives them a semi good archer unit from a gameplay viewpoint. Wanted to say also that i know what dark elves in most fantasy like. But most add there own visual look (ex Warhammer) So i don't know how visualy they would look in middle earth, thats to say if they even exsist in the lore.

And don't worry lol, this isn't a thread asking for undead skeletons in middle earth lol. This is a serious thread for the disscussion of darks elves in the mod. Heres some visual stuff to add to the topic on hand. But the more i think it, Age of Wonders did the look of the dark elves the best in terms of visual style, all these images are from AOW.

Not in vanilla is all I can say.

The skeleton thread was "serious" as well. Ironically I think you'd have a higher chance of encountering a skeleton in Middle-Earth than a dark elf.

Oh and before someone grabs that straw, Eol was called the "Dark Elf" because of his nature and character, not because he lived underground and had purple/black/swamp-green skin while worshiping a spider goddess.

Didn't someone make mention of dark elves being unblessed or somthing by the eldar or somthing. As like i said i barily know anything deeper with the lore than some basic stuff, so i wouldn't know. The skeleton thread i couldn't take serious from the start, things like that i think are impossible in middle earth. But i dunno if theres any lore or atleast a very good reason of dark elves living in or atleast being mentioned in ME. And i don't mean like it Ohh let's add dark elves with greenish... well the colour varies somewhat really but i don't mean it like add dark elves with green skin into the mod. Since theres so many different kinds of dark elves in fantasy, in Wrahammer the dark elves look very very similar to high elves but they have black hair mostly slighly more pale skin or darker skin with really elaborate armor, or barly any lol. Dark elves in Record of Lodoss War, have Brown skin and silver white hair mostly. So like i said, i'm just trying to use the dark elves from AOW as a basic visual idea, not base the whole concept around them.

This is gonna be a fun topic...

Odd someone should bring it up. I was considering building an age of wonders TW game at some point. I was going to wait for the perylicious creatures mod for TA to come out however; and pray I could use some of their units.

Avari (The Unwilling) were the elves who refused to follow the Valar to Valinor and stayed in ME. They remained a mostly rustic people (Silvan Elves and such) but they weren't evil or "dark". Perhaps somewhat isolationist. For example Legolas is technically a descendant of the Avari.

There aren't dark elves in the traditional sense in Lord of the Rings.

I thought Legolas was a member of the Sindar nobility?

dark elves= creatures mades for geeks in order to make them exited(especially, the string of the dark elves womans), so they are not obliged to go watching porno anymore. They broke epicness.

Lord of the ring= Serious universe, not for baby, with a real scenario and a fantastic and epic story, so with an epic story there can't be dark elves, srry .

Legolas is the son of a Sindar, yes, but he was born in a Silvan realm in Emyn-nu-Fuin, not Beleraind. So, what do you call him? But eitherway, the Eglathrim (Sindar) are counted as Dark Elves becouse they ventured as far as Belerain with Elu Thingol, but after he was entranced by Melian they decided to stay and so not seeing Vanimar.

Well, Legolas isn't the best example since he's pretty mean. Not only does he hate animals (Mumaks in particular), but he also kills those precious orcsies for no appearent reason other than they're orcs (which is racism) and rides around on a shield thinking it's a skateboard trying to pull off that "I'm Marty McFly and I can do things you can't" stunt. If you've seen Back to the Future, you know what I'm talking about.

So in retrospect, Legolas seems like an utter jerk and he's obviously a hater.

well, they were called "dark elves", but this was to differentiate them from the elves that saw the light of valinor (making them light elves, or eldar).
Though this is irreverent to TATW, because they were all called something else by the third age, and are all already in the mod. (Your example of the elves of mirkwood)

Orcs are probably the closest thing to dark elves in LotR.

    No.

    Just no.

Maybe a submod, but "dark elves" in middle earth are a massive mind and facepalm.

Like Osu said, Orcs are the "dark elves" of middle-earth. orcs once were elves, but melkor tortured them until they became evil creatures and breeded an own race out of them (because of that, orcs have pointed ears like elves)

Well, i just see orcs as grubby creatures rather than elves, although i did know they were elves at one point. But they got twisted and shaped.
