Re: [RTR 6 Gold AAR] Deukalos
Well, this is my first AAR (and first post, eek) so feel free to judge it and give advice, criticism etc. Yes, even grammatical correction, for the nit picker in all of us. I've never been Macedonia before in RTR, but enjoy reading about its history; Alexander the Great, Diodachi Wars and all that. Thought it would be fun to try it out.
Version
RTR Gold
Marcus Camillus 4 Turns per Year modification
Faction
Looking at the size of the Seleucid Empire and the Ptolemaic Empire compared to Macedonia, I thought it would be fun to try and beat the other Successors as the underdog. Yes, the Seleucid Empire may be beset on all sides by enemies, but so is Macedon. Plus, we have to deal with Rome before them, never a fun time.
Objectives
1) To recreate Alexander the Great's empire.
2) To wipe out Pontus, Armenia, Bactria," Ptolemaic Empire and Seleucia.
3) To have a stable (I'll be the one to judge what's stable and what isn't) western border.
House Rules
1) No retraining.
2) No reloading after disasters.
3) No conquering to the west", no matter how tiresome or terrifyingly large the Romans / Illyrians / Thracians get.
4) Athens and Sparta must remain in the hands of the Greek Cities. I want my Macedonia to be seen as defenders of Hellenism against Asiatic / Egyptian influences. If they go to war with me I can destroy any of their armies in the field, but not take their cities.
5) The King must spearhead a conquest. Macedonia cannot invade a nation (not province=/=nation) unless the King accompanies them.
6) The King must act as his attributes convey. If he is a coward, he will not go on the offensive. If he is reckless," then he must attack even if the odds are overwhelming etc. This may not always be the case *cough* if I concentrate more on story or something.
7) Attacks have to be planned. I cannot just bludgeon my way to victory. Hopefully the King rules will help here.
8) Sieges are always to be fought", never waited out.
9) No bribing.
Difficulty: H/H
Story
I'm going to try my best at making this game follow a storyline, which will be narrative. I'm really enjoying 'Alexanders True Empire' by Imperator Valentine so have been influenced by his style (please don't kill me.)
So, I hope this goes down well, and that it isn't too rubbish.

Chapter One - The Shadow of the Past
Antigonos Gonatas sighed deeply. "Grandfather would be ashamed", he thought to himself. Antigonos the One Eyed had been dead for years now, but the current monarch still remembered how as a young man he had witnessed Alexanders general almost unite the Successor states.
However, fate had turned against their family, and he grimaced, remembering his fathers sorry end. "I will not drink myself to death like him", he had vowed, yet looking at the map of the hellenic world, the idea seemed quite inviting.

"Even Philips kingdom was bigger than this" he muttered, waving his hand over Macedonian lands. "Graeco-persians to the east, Graeco-egyptians to the south. It seems that the heirs to Alexander are not satisfied with remaining Macedonian or Greek."
His three sons Demetrius, Euenos and Damasos stood there, expressions grim. They had grown up listening to the stories of their family's loss of power.
"I will not go to Hades as a failure. Ptolemy's last holding in Europe stands as an insult to me, to my very being. I march there to regain lost honour for the house of Gonatas. They will learn to fear us again when Maronia falls."
His voice was raised nearly to a shout at this, but he suddenly slumped down into his chair. "Wishful thinking of course. The Kingdom of Macedon is just that, a kingdom. They and their empires have no reason to fear us."
Demetrius stirred at this but kept silent. His fathers depression had been getting worse recently, and he knew better than to try and reason with him.
"Still, there is no better place than battle to die. If it be the gods will, I shall welcome it." He stood. "Farewell my sons, if I return it shall be with extended holdings and honour."
He strode out the room, leaving the three brothers glancing at each other. "He is wrong you know" said Demetrius. "We can be feared. It was Macedonia that sired Alexander. From Macedonia did all the Successors come. We can be great again. We will be."
