Default Why the Total War series are the most disheartening games ever...

Over the last couple of years, I've played Total War games on and off. The usual patterns is usually:

    Install the game
Play for a few days/weeks (depends on game)
    Get bored
    Uninstall game

Then, after a while, I'd get the urge to fight some battles and re-install it. And then after a small few days of playing, I'll usually end up uninstalling it

I constantly did this and never understood why, but recently I realised it's because of one simple thing:

    CTD's!

It's terrible. It just destroys the game and makes me lose my enthusiasm. I installed Rome Total War a few weeks ago, did some modding but then I started getting CTD's half way through the campaign so I lost interest and just uninstalled. The other day I installed it again, but now I keep getting CTD's and it's just wrecking my experience so I'm seriously considering uninstalling again

So, basically, you are saying that TW is disheartening because when you mod, it CTDs?
I have never had CTDs on a vanilla game. Ever. I also do not encounter CTDs on my Main Mods more then once a month (I play with stable mods).

I am afraid this is an issue with your favorite Mods, not your Game.

Well actually, I've had loads of CTD's in the vanilla of all the Total War games, especially post-RTW.

The game is not interesting enough on it's own and it meant to be easily moddable. And yet this game can crash like crazy because of the slightest mods.

But my point was, vanilla or mods, Total War games crash far more than any other game I have played and it's disheartening

Interesting, thank you for the clarification.

I can't even remember the last time I had a CTD in a total war game. Now Paradox Interactive games? Those crash at the drop of a hat.

I am exactly 100% the opposite. I think a Paradox Interactive game has crashed on me once, and that was back when I had my old crappy computer

Some people get ctds playing minesweeper or solitaire, others breeze along ctd-free for years. Sometimes it seems like 'pot luck'. TW games probably ctd just as much as other games, and arsing about with mods and file tinkering stuff aint gonna help. Seems odd labeling the series 'disheartening' due to moddy stuff and all that cobblers.

I hate pot luck. It made me lose 25 euros on Black Ops (yea it was at discount) .

Anyway, CA's games have been a lot better than Treyarch's ones in PC stability. I just love the TW series, and rarely had CTDs from game's fault, most of them on my old PC

Aye, I hate pot luck too, but it seems that way with most computer games, virtually identical systems will run ctd-free but the other guys system will be a ctd-fest.

I wouldnt rank TW as the 'most disheartening series' ever..I can think of other games series which are far worse than TW and would run like treacle on virtually everyones systems before biting the dust with a ctd.

    Clue..rhymes with Wonquest

I only get CTD's in vanilla Rome when I try to look at the Senate. I always get them. Anyone know a solution?

The only time I have CTD's are from either
    -Modding error
    -too many background processes
-or just 'cause my PC is so freaking old
