Icon5 M2TW has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit.

Hello, anyone who might still frequent this seemingly forgotten board. My issue concerns dreaded and long-running "unspecified error".

I can install (albeit just barely, as my disks are scratched beyond repair) and run the vanilla M2TW just fine, but when trying to install kingdoms, this issue makes both the Kingdoms expansion completely unplayable. The issue only appears either while the battle map is loading, or a few seconds after the battle map has loaded, never on the campaign map, like I have read some other user's have experienced. I have tryed many if not all of the supposed remedies I have seen on this board (update drivers, total un/reinstall, et cetera), and none have worked.

Here is where I think the problem lies. When updating M2TW, before the Kingdoms installation begins, the installer updates the game to version 1.02.001 with no issue, but when updating to version 1.03.000 it says,

"Error: invalid or missing target C:\Program Files\Sega\Medieval II Total War\packs\data_1.pack
    Update could not be continued."

I then select, "ok", and the installation aborts. If I reattempt Kingdoms installation, it does not attempt to update M2TW to v1.03, but skips straight to the Kingdoms installation. It will then complete installation with no issues. Of course, when I then run the game, the issue make battles unplayable.

Thank you in advanced for any information leading to a resolution.

P.S.-As you can tell, I am not particularly savvy when it comes to computers, and English is not my first language.

    Far from forgotten.

This is where your disc is scratched and cannot be read by the drive.

I then select, "ok", and the installation aborts. If I reattempt Kingdoms installation, it does not attempt to update M2TW to v1.03, but skips straight to the Kingdoms installation. It will then complete installation with no issues. Of course, when I then run the game, the issue make battles unplayable.

This all says you need to buy new discs. Have you tried a little toothpaste and a lot of rubbing the toothpaste into the scratches? Be sure to clean off any excess.

I have not. I will try that.

I have looked in the specified file-path, and data_1.pack is indeed there. Probably irrelevant.

    Thanks again,
