Default Getting a monitor and the good ol` native resolution

Hey you guys , my pc isnt exactly high-end so i wanted to get an monitor with a low native resolution (preferably 1280x1024). But for the same price i also get full hd monitors that are like 4" larger. Anway my system here

    graphics: GeForce GT 320

    Processor: i5 650 ; 2 cores with 3.2 GHZ

    OS: Windows 7 64-bit

    Ram: 4096 DDR3-ram

Will a full hd monitor slow my games down alot compared to 1280x1024?

I mean GTA4 runs fine as it is now and i dont want it to become a slideshow just cuz i chose the wrong monitor.

It will decrease performance if you get the full HD monitor as your gfx card works harder. That said, you can counteract some of that by running that HD monitor at native res -1 level. I I wouldn't recommend anything above 23" for this situation, perhaps a nice sweet spot would be a 21". Quality over size is worth it.

You can always run the game at a lower resolution but many times the image will then look disproportional. Your GPU isn't a very good one so depending on that game your performance could be quite a bit lower on a high res scree. And just for desktop use I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a 24" monitor at 1920x1080 as the text would be rather small.

I would say purchase a graphics card before you buy a monitor otherwise it will just frustrate you in gaming.

The monitor itself won't slow down performance however running games at a higher resolution will, if you stick to a resolution that matches the aspect ratio of the monitor while being a lower resolution the image shouldn't be noticably distorted.

However, what is your current monitor? Why are you looking for a new one? And would the money be better spent on purchasing a card that can handle full hd resolutions?

Well i lack some money. And there are some pixel errors on the screen - also because the picture isnt so sharp anymore i think it harms my eyes. (Theyre bad anyway - my eyes i mean)

    Dxdiag says PnP-Monitor.

Doono stated this better than I did...it is the increased resolution setting in the HD monitor that would pinch performance, not the monitor itself.

The fact that you have a PnP monitor listed, instead of whatever brand name is on the monitor itself, usually make no difference in anything. The display adaptor is everything.
